tired of Valentine Invite yet? Side story, a great team race actually was determined on the very last match on the mats! Ulmer of Winner, SD and Isom of O'Neill in finals of 275; Ulmer was winning a somewhat normal paced heavy's match just into third, his coach caught his attention and told him they needed the bonus point, to cut Isom and take him then do it again, get the major. Ulmer caught fire and literally tossed Isom across the mat at one point and had increased his lead sufficiently to have the major in hand, then with little time remaining Isom reverses him and reduces the outcome to a decision, leaving Winner tied with NC, 1 point short of Valentine. The decibel level in this match from first both Valentine and Winner, secondly from O'Neill, pegged the needle

Don't know the score but Kenner dominated him and also dominated Ormasher of Valentine in the semi's. He looked really good.

I'm working on it, VHS AD faxed official results but without match scores, he's now working on trying to email me file that includes the match scores; nothing yet. I offered to post to NWI, just can not do so until I have official/complete information.

Seen that there were several 5 match limit forfeits. This happens when a wrestler gets beat in the first round and battles all the way back through. Probably a freshman that didn't get the seed points to get seeded but was obviously a good wrestler. I say let the kid wrestle for 3rd or 5th whatever the case. He or she deserves it. More and more events are going to 16 man foremat to get their kids the 4 or 5 matchs in a weekend. NSAA should go to 6 match limit with a maxium of 16 team tournament on a 1 day event. That would prevent this going even further into a 7th match situation in the future. Also since Dual teams are jumping on the band wagon too...limit 1 day dual team tournaments to 6 teams and that will stay with a 5 match limit. I guess that is if its a round robin dual tournament like we've been seeing lately. If it's a pool dual tournament we could still have more than 6 teams but not more than 5 matches per day.
I think later in the season, the 6th match wouldn't happen as much because of established records and head to head criteria. The first 3 to 4 weeks is where we would see a difference and then as said before mostly with freshman and sophmores that weren't varsity the year before. The sophmore could have been behind a state medalist on his team. Let the kids wrestle for what they fought so hard to get to. |
