Coach Pokorny: I have had some issues with the Districts this year, but I truly appreciate your support and selfless efforts to wrestling. Thank you for all you do (I don't even have a clue to how much you do). I know I contributed to your headache (and Fred's) this year voicing my displeasure about the "competition" and the inconvenience of the Districts; however, that doesn't mean I don't support NE Youth Wrestling and appreciate your efforts.

Last night at practice a parent came up to me and said they were trying to enter a meet, but couldn't. I looked at the flyer and realized this was a AAU tournament & that was their "roadblock". So then I had to explain USA, Huskerland and AAU to this "newbie". It's frustrating as you all know.

Bottom line: Although I may not like everything that USA, Huskerland and AAU do (and how their tournaments are competing with our Club tournaments, I appreciate all each of you do.

We just got home from O'Neill - the NE USA Wrestling District 3 Tournament. It was VERY well ran. Coaches Corkle and Fox need to be congratulated for the preparations and work (as well as the rest of their Team).

The tournament had a low turnout (127 wrestlers for 56 brackets), but this was no fault of the O'Neill crew.

Well done!

Don't you have a good 160 from david city? I need one for my dual team.

I'm sure you mean "Central City" (not David City). What grade/age are you looking for?

There's no weight allowance for this tournament. Never has been and never will be. Must weigh with a singlet on. There will be check scales.

No out of state residence will be allowed to wrestle at NE USA State.

Wrestled at District 2 in North Platte yesterday. Very low turn out, approximately 125 wrestlers, Midwest Destroyers wrestling club did an admirable job with what they had to work with for entries. Love the concept of District qualifiers for State meet but not to fond of the hardship petitions. USA wrestling needs to give the District qualifing a boost by having 16 man brackets at State and maybe cutting districts to 4. Just an opinion.

Sounds like all of the Districts have had low attendance. At O'Neill, there were numerous brackets with 2 or 3 wrestlers - all qualify. I hear the same for the North Platte and Seward districts.

I like the idea of 4 districts. Doesn't make sense to attend a tournament and automatically qualify. We could go somewhere else and get more matches.

mitchell district had about 150 kids and a lot of small brackets. 7th-8th there wasnt a 102 bracket, 110 had 4,117 had 6, 125 and 132 were combined for 4 total wrestlers. but even though numbers werent great mitchell did a great job running it and we were out by 3:00.

There were several brackets in North Platte with 1 wrestler. Two that I didn't expect to see were 80 & 85 for 3rd & 4th grades. This sticks out to me because my son was the 85lber. Midwest Destroyers did set up some exhibition matches to let the kids wrestle which I was very gratful for.

The results from the districts are coming in. Starting to put bracketing together. One more district and we will be ready to go. Heard Westside had about 225 at their district. Hopefully District 5 will step it up and have the best turnout.

host hotel is Howard Johnson in Grand Island. Let them know you are there for USA State for group discount. Its the place to be for USA State on march 19th, 20th, and 21st (duals on 21st)

When the brackets are complete, will they be posted to the Nebraska USA site?

Fred,

Kearney Catholic has a very solid 8th grade 160 lber by the name of Thomas Connely. I spoke to his dad and he was going to call around and see if a dual team would need his sevices. If your still looking, I can put you in touch with his dad (Dr. Tom Connely).

Each District can run weigh-ins however they want. It's their choice. If Mitchel is doing satalite weigh-ins then I'm sure they are being done on the up and up at those locations. USA Directors never told any district they had to weigh on 1 scale. If Nebraska City/Hodges gave an allowance then it was probably cause he knew his scale was a little heavy and decided to do that rather than force the weight issue. It's really not a big deal. We talked about that exact think at our Fall meeting. We gave them this flexibility for weigh-ins. Some will use and some won't. It's up to them.(Our scale in Oakland is 0.40 heavier than several others we weighed on throughout the year) Good thing is, each district will have a meeting next fall and vote on how they want things to run for next year in their own district. As long as they qualify top 4 and follow the weight/grade classes, the rest is really up to them.

At least we have weigh-ins!!

You have my email address if you have questions. You might want to try that first next time.

You don't need to come on a USA thread and stir the pot about our district tournaments.

Stick to your AAU threads. That's where your Knowledge lies.

Fred Franklin
NE USA kids director

Did not mean to offend Sorry was asking a question as a dad nothing more. We attend all events. We are fans of wrestling period. USA Huskerland and AAU. I am just like every other dad we go where good wrestling is and where Chance wants. 13 of the events we have been this year have been USA card events so I think we are pretty suportive! Once again Sorry! I did not mean to stir the pot as you called it. See you next week at USA State.
