MatCat,
Did you find any good deals in Cedar Falls for rooms?

Anyone else from NE going? I have only noticed 7 NE entries from Junior down. This tournament is relatively close to drive from eastern NE and is one of the best run tournaments in the country. Too bad more NE wrestlers don't attend. Currently, there is no hotel/motel availability in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo vicinity, unfortunately. Hope that we see a few more NE signups before deadline on 4/2 at 11 CST.

I am sure it is a good tournament. We love to wrestle the Iowa and Dakota boys! Too many big competitions on the same day. We are heading to AAU state and many more are going to Adidas Brute Nationals. With Huskerland state next weekend, it is too expensive to have 2 weekends away from home for the family.

Nebraska is one of the few states that don't have to qualify for this tournament yet our numbers attending this are only a handful every year. Frown

Entries into this year's USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals are still being accepted through 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday. After this date they will still accept your entry, but there is a $15 late fee. Last year featured the biggest turnout in event history with 2,145 wrestlers taking part, and organizers expect that 2008 will be even bigger.

I found rooms (but not many) at the Travel Inn Cedar Falls. 3350 University Ave, 3mi from UNIdome.

(319)235-2165 $39.95 single rate per night

We're putting 3 people in the room and our rate was quoted at $45.95.

That was last Friday. Things may have changed since then.

If you have time make sure you stop in and see the Dan Gable Wrestling Museum. It pretty incredible for a wrestling fan.

Trackwrestling has entrants listed for USA's at 2192(new attendance record) with Reno & Brute even on same weekend, looks to be the best yet. I looked all day for rooms, none available for 25+ miles, and got lucky and found a room because of a cancellation. Good luck to all NE wrestlers attending. Falcon Dad, we'll be at same hotel.

I'm assuming alot of Nebraska wrestlers are headed to the NHSCA National Qualifier in Omaha. Even at Brute, we're not well represented...it's really too bad that these tournament dates couldn't have been moved around alittle (Qualifier/Brute/USA/AAU) because after this weekend things slow down quiite a bit as far as what's available regionally. Were headed to Brute...good luck everyone!

It's a really good event. I've covered it the last couple of years and the addition of the Junior division last year made it even better.

Hope to see some of the Nebraska wrestlers up there.

Curious why Brute and this event would be on the same weekend?

Late last year, Folkstyle Nat's were moved from their tenative date of 3/28-3/30 because of an issue with some of the USA state tournament dates, I know that KS was one of them. I don't know if Brute had already planned on their weekend by that time, but might be the case. I wonder if the Brute tournament was run any better than last year? I heard alot of negative comments about Brute's tournament organization last year.

Aaaaah not the worst I guess although I'm not sold on the idea of running all championships matches together on the same day. Parents of grade schoolers have to spend an extra day in KC (and of course spend more $$$). For high schoolers, I'm also wondering about running clear through semis in 1 day. The idea came up about running grade school finals Saturday morning, high school up to the semis and then finish them up Sunday. Some of the high school brackets were LOADED and competition was tough so it's give & take I guess.

I'll bet you would like Folk Nat's better than Brute. The venue is easy access, modern, plenty of seating and the tournament is well organized, unlike the Auditorium which is also used for Liberty Nat's and run by the same organizer. I know there was tough HS wrestlers at both tournaments, but the youth side of Brute's tournament was much weaker than compared to USA's and the numbers for the youth at Brute were low. Cedar Falls also offers relatively close and low price hotels and a variety of eateries by the hotels. I heard that Brute was charging some ridiculous price for coaches bands? USA had a $35 entry fee if entered online by 4/2 and $50 if paying at weigh-ins, I don't know what Brute charged? At USA's, you get in and down on the mats with your USA coaches card and copper certification(which they do two classes on Friday), USA card cost $35, which has also got me in to all of the USA events that I have attended since last September when it was purchased. The tournament was using trackwrestling and you could look at bracket results in a relatively short delayed time, and print them out rather than buying a bracket, which I am guessing you must buy at Brute? USA also promotes the event on their website and via e-mail and it is the end tournament of the Ultimate Challenge Series, so it is a very prestigious tournament, with the top 8 making all-american status. It is also the first leg of USA's triple crown. I would wager that USA's will draw another record field again next year if the venue doesn't change or the economy prevent it.
