I just wanted to let those people who believe that the Qwest is overpriced. Here are some comparison prices of what we are paying at Div I here in St. Louis.

A 20oz bottle of pop or water-$5.75
Slice of Pizza-$8.00
Steak or Chicken Sandwich-$8.00
Cup of regular fries, smaller than the Qwest-$5.00
Collectible Cup with drink $10.00 (can be refilled for $1.00, suppose to only work that session but is rarely enforced.)

As I look at some of the other prices, I will let you know some of the other prices.

Parking per session is $10.00, not like the $6.00 a day we get at the Qwest. There is public transportation that moves people around very easily. To park your car at your hotel downtown, can range anywhere from $10 to as high as $25.00 a night.

Just thought people might want a look around on what some other venues are offering and realize that the Qwest isn't as bad as some of you belive.

one is a high school event the other college of course it is going to have a higher price range

Ummmmm, it makes no difference what event is being held, concession prices are the same.

The Qwest is cheaper than the majority of event centers nationwide.

It is all relative. Salaries will vary from different areas of the country. People make more money on average in Denver then they do in Omaha. The cost of living is also higher. I am willing to bet St Louis is the same.

St Louis is a strungling city, AG edwards(largest employ) is moving to Tx, they lost there hub in American Airlines, it was voted 2nd most dangerous city to live in 2 years ago and their downtown area is really old and dated. The cost of living is similar to Omaha, nothing compared to Denver. i lived in St L, and I wouldnt move back.

deano -- the fact that it's college vs. high school makes no difference -- arenas charge outrageous prices for substandard fare no matter the venue or the event.

I read something somewhere recentlly that St. Louis had overtaken Detroit as the nation's most dangerous city.

I've been in both cities in the past few years, and I would never have guessed that St. Louis could possibly be worse than Detroit. I remember walking down near the arena in St. Louis and it was one of the more pleasant non-working experiences I had in my years in the media business.

I walked through a part of Detroit once, though, and never felt more in fear of my life than I did that afternoon.

Detroit is a train wreck. The university of Detroit's mascot is a flag with a burning car.

Washington DC anywhere outside of the NW area (downtown) is a train wreck.

When I was in Detroit, they spent the first two segments of the local newscast with stories on either murders, gang violence or corruption in the mayor's office.

The next two segments featured more of the same...

Then came the weather...and two more murders during the local forecast.

Detroit's a nice place to stop by on your way to someplace safer...like Darfur.

NWI, I don't want to be the poster who finds fault or offence in every post or light joke. But I don't think the reference to Darfur was very appropriate here. There's a difference between city-wide crime violence and genocide. Just doesn't seem right to use the misfortunes of these people as the butt of a joke. Maybe another comparison would be more fitting.

letsgo, if you read my post I said I didn't want to find offence in every little thing. I didn't make a big deal out of it. But yeah, you're right. I'll lighten up. Maybe the people in darfur can lighten up too, I mean they are only being killed. No biggie. Plain and simple, there are other topics that could've been used was all that I was saying.

If you think there is no cost of living difference between St. Louis and Omaha you are fooling yourself. Having poor people does not mean everything gets cheaper. By that logic New York would be a pretty cheap place to live, but as it is a one bedroom apartment that would cost you about $450-500 a month in Nebraska is well over $1000. A more accurate prediction of cost of living is usually population of an area rather than wealth. Here are some real estate comparisons for St. Louis and Omaha as well. I found a very nice looking 5 bed, 5 bath brick home in Omaha for $315,000. In St. Louis I see a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath for $479,000.

Unless we're talking about moving the state meet to St. Louis, I see no relevence to this thread.

Yes, the cost of living in St. Lous is higher than in Omaha... but only by 7.4%, so let's just take that into account to see what the hypothetical costs in the Scottrade Center would be here in Omaha.

Unlike Panther I think the thread has relevance. Based upon the complaints of a few posters concerning the prices of concessions at the Qwest.

If you want to have a safe new home for the state tournament your going to have to also pay for it.

I also think the thread is relevant for the number of fans that not only attend the state meet but also attend the NCAA finals. As the finals will be at the Qwest in two years its great to know our prices are as high as like arenas.

What you say has a lot of merrit, howver you are missing one thing and that is about 6,000 fans who didn't show up to the Qwest this year on Friday night and Saturday. That is a big time problem. People you can't compare a big time NCAA event to the Nebraska state wrestling tournament because there are two different fan bases. What people don't realize is that in small town USA right now there isn't a lot of money and what little money people have they are going to spend it at 1. a place they feel they are welcomed, 2. a place they feel they get more bang for there buck. Does Omaha and the Qwest fit these?
