The most dominating HS wrestler thread got me wondering about post High School accomplishments. I know that Nebraska has produced quite a few DII AAs but how many native Nebraskans have placed at the DI level?
I know of Roy and Ray Oliver and Vering but have never heard about any others. If the list is really that short, it will be quite a feat if Browne and Brester are able to pull it off in March. Are there any more and what were their credentials? |

RJ Nebe from UNO...probably several others who placed at both D1 and D2 when that was allowed.

Joe Scarpello (I think he was from Tech or Central) was a 2X nat'l champ at University of Iowa. He's even older than me so you young pups would never have heard of him.
Dwaine Martin, Omaha North, was AA at University of Northern Iowa. Newt Copple and Max Kitzelman. Go to this link from the Husker website and see if any other AA's listed are from Nebraska. http://www.huskers.com//pdf2/94678.pdf?ATCLID=4017&SPSI...PID=28&DB_OEM_ID=100 OOPS, I think I missed one. I think Joe George was from Creighton Prep and I believe he is a brother-in-law of Bernie Hospodka, National Champ at UNO. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Frank Ryan, |

Dan Brand is on that list Frank. I think he was from Lincoln? and was an olympic medalist?
Thats the only one I could find. Mike Nissen might be, but I can't remember. |

I googled Dan Brand and it showed he was an AA and Olympic medalist but it didn't give his hometown. Mike Nissen is from Mason City, IA. |

Dan Brand grew up in Lincoln and Bellevue. He was fourth at the 1958 NCAAs for Nebraska. He was 5th at the 1960 Olympics and won a bronze medal at the 1964 Olympics.

Congrats Browne and Brester on your achievement!!!
You've added your names to a very select list of wrestlers. You serve as inspiration to all those from grade school on up who aspire to follow in your footsteps. |

The most impressive thing about Craig Brester and Brandon Browne is the list they wouldn't be on. Start listing the most physically gifted Nebraska high school wrestlers you've ever seen. I doubt if either of them would make the top 50. They got their AA plaques the old fashioned way; they earned them.
