I am short on camp counselors for the next two camps we have scheduled. Our normal counselors have other camp committments for two of our camps.

I need up to 2 counselors for Jason Kelber's Competitive Edge camp to be held June 22 - June 27th. I may also need a counselor or perhaps two for the Royce Alger "Iowa School of Wrestling" camp held July 6 - July 11.

These are great camps where you get to have fun and also learn from these two wrestling greats.

We "PAY", provide food and lodging and you get to join in many of our "Outdoor Challenge Activities" including canoeing down the Niobrara R., paintball, river-nerf football etc.

Our previous counselors have always had a great time and most are returning for at least 1 -2 or our camps this summer.

I failed to put in that current or previous college wrestlers or interested coaches would be preferred.

Thanks!

I have had several of my former wrestlers work as counselors at the Outdoor Challenge Camps. They have all enjoyed working these camps a great deal. I believe all of them are working at least one of the Outdoor Challenge Camps this year. With the addition of new camps Steve just needs more counselors this year. I believe all college wrestlers or young coaches would enjoy challenging themselves against the Outdoor Challenge Obstacle course. I believe it might be one of the most challenging obstacle courses in the country. I believe the Etherton boys hold the top two times on the course.

Marty,
Should I ask Joey if he would be willing to take a few days off and go do this? Guessing all I would have to do is mention those records by Ryan and Drew and he might be up for it.

Hawk,

I think we have asked Joey about it, but he might not have wanted to ask you for the time off. Joey ran the obstacle course with UNK at their fall retreat. Ask him about how tough it is. The Ethertons are amazing at it. There is a bit of a learning curve and they have it down. Rob Sanders from UNL also had a great time when he worked the camp. Dale Bonge is as old as I am and Keenan told me he had an impressive run on the obstacle course. Coach Manstedt from Gothenberg also ran the course but I got tired just looking at it.

Yeah, Ryan Etherton beat my time by about 2 minutes. That course is TOUGH! So his lifetime record against me in everything sits at 1-289. But its ok Ryan, I am sweet at everything.

I would be a camp counslor but my full time job gets in the way!! You can be rest assured I am gonna go up there and tear that bad boy up when UNK goes up there for their annual Team Retreat!

Excalibur I think Jeff and Tervel are coming to my house to watch your brother fight on HDNET tomorrow night. What time does the fight start and what can you tell us about your brother's opponent? It is funny you mention your record against Ryan because he told me he could beat you even with his bad wing. Also Jeff is a Knight now and believe it or not we stayed at the Knight's Inn in Vegas. I wanted to stay at the Spartan Inn but Jeff couldn't handle the required workouts.

Jake fights Ricky Story a wrestler from SOU in 2006. He wrestled 184 and lost to Tanner Linscum in OT at our dual with SOU and he finished 2nd in NAIA to Willie Parks from Dana College. He's a pretty good wrestler, but I think his stand-up training is minimal. It will be a good ground fight, but he is gonna take some heat closing the gap I assume. I predict Jake by (T)KO in Round 2. Ryan would probably beat me in that obstcale course right now, but ask him who is the only guy to ever pin him in a match in his whole life? I'll save you the suspense, the correct answer is Joe Ellenberger en route to his Gold Medal finish in a freestyle tournment in GermanySmile

I just got back from the Outdoor Challenge camp and it was amazing!! I think I had more fun than the kids did with all of the wrestling and outdoor activities-we played paintball, football, canoed the niobrara river and I took on the obstacle course also. My time was 7:37, not too bad but Im still feeling it in my forarms. I need to get me a tractor tire to practice flippingSmile

The Twister Man did a great job of teaching at the Outdoor Challenge Camp. He is a fair paintball player and did a great job on the obstacle course, which I can't even imagine doing. I am not sure if Adam got his kayak flipped over or not. Adam will just keep teaching wrestling as long as any kids want to learn. He loves to teach wrestling and he has the knowledge and teaching skills to help just about anyone.

Also Excalibur won his fight tonight by decision I believe. This is third hand knowledge but I am pretty sure it is accurate. I believe the "Twister" was their cheering for Excalibur.

I just got back from working 2 Outdoor Challenge Camps and I can tell you it was a blast. I had a great time with everything. Steve does a great job of mixing in wrestling and other activities so that the kids keep interest and dont get bored. The paintball was my favorite because at the youth camp I think there were about 16 kids that had nightmares that night after the 4 counselors took them out in around 4 minutes with minimal cheating. The Outdoor Challenge Camp is the best camp that I have been to. And I have been to these camps as a camper and as a counselor. I recommend this camp to any coach to bring his team to or any wrestler looking to get better and also have a great time. The obstacle course is very tough if your someone like Joe Ellenberger

I dont think Drew did it faster than me. But thats of course because my obstacle course is a bit different. After the monkey bars, but before push-ups there is an extra station where the two competitors get to fight one 5 minute round. Then trade 20 legs kicks each leg. Although, that part is in there only for when I do the course against someone else, it pretty much sucks for drew. He actually got KTFO'ed in the 3 minute so he was unable to finish the course. Sorry for your bad luck deaterton.
