He has taken some kids who never wrestled before high school and made them state champs. He has a number of other challenges that other coaches don't, but has built up the Boys Town program to be a contender. I think he's doing an incredible job. |

When you consider that some schools can be more, uh, selective in having certain kids in their program -- and public schools basically have to play the hands they are dealt -- Aaron takes kids who have had little or no previous experience and not only builds quality wrestlers, but kids who leave with vastly improved outlooks on life as well (which is infinitely more important than state titles). I've seen Aaron work with his kids in practice, and they work as hard in the room as anybody in the state. If he had an opportunity to have the kind of quality kids year in and year out in his program and had a chance to really develop that talent, there's no telling how high that program could go...and they're one of the best in B right now as it is. That is why my vote goes for Nate Urbach former coach at Rushville now in Powell Wy. He took those kids from when they were in elementary school and worked w/them all the way through high school and the results speak for themselves, his last year he arguably had the best team in the state regardless of class and arguably the best Class D team of all time. So sometimes putting out good High school teams may not accurately represent how good the HS coach is. A great coach is one that takes nothing and turns it into something. |
