I had the misfortune of sitting a bunch of fans from certain class b schools that were more focused on booing any wrestler from Skutt High School than cheering on their own. I tried to reason with some of them and get a logical reason for it. The only answer I got was that it is unfair that they get to win it every year. I told them that the bottom line is, if they don't like it, then have their kids work extra hard and beat them. I even heard some of them booing Sackett after he won his 4th title.

Yeah, I agree. It was awful to boo them just because they are winning. If you don't like them, beat them. I think they need to be commended for the effort they put in. Fiala, who is a great wrestler, and put on a terrific performance, ruined it with the showboating at the end. Then, in the finals, it appeared to again "taunt" the Skutt fans. I don't agree with that. I think they took some team points away, but if they don't do more, then it will continue. My first trip to the Quest. Very memorable. I wish they would stop throwing airplanes, cards, and beach balls.

People weren't booing the kids, they weren't booing just because Skutt was winning, they were booing because they think Skutt cheats.

Recruiting in highschool is cheating.

I'll admit when a Skutt kid is wrestling, I'm usually not cheering for him. Even I find myself cheering against them every once and a while, and they are for the wrong reasons. There is nothing wrong with the people, and even if they do "Cheat", it doesn't matter becuase those kids come to practice and wrestle their butt off every day to get better. When Sackett won his fourth title and the people boo-ed him, that is just stupid. Even if you don't like the kid just sit there and don't say anything, he was a four time state champion. I'm not from Omaha Skutt and I have never had anything to do with them.

John, you need to understand what recruiting in private schools is. Its a the only way we can keep open. I was recruited to come to Skutt, I will admit it. But along with everyone in my 8th grade class was recruited. A high school can talk to us any amount they want and thats the way they stay open. Its not against any rule for these schools to talk to anyone about coming there.
Where it does become illegal is when they offer incentives(free school) which never happens. If you need proof every year the Archdiocese of Omaha posts the School's budgets and where all the money is going. I am sure that there is no money going to paying for these kids. If every wrestler on the team had a free ride and lets not forget Skutt is pretty darn good in a lot of sports. How is this school exactly staying open if almost 100 kids are getting free school is what I want to know.

Let's not forget, for every student recruited to Skutt, maybe some $5000 to $7000 of property tax relief, per year, is lifted from the shoulders of property owners. I am one of those property owners who happen to take advantage of free public education for my son--who by the way is patriot 152. So I am not going to complain. Skutt doesn't cheat, they recruit students, and although I am a tiny bit jealous, their wrestlers certainly deserve our congratulations. Let’s not forget that they are just kids who possess qualities that any parent would be proud of.

First, let me say I believe that no wrestler should ever be booed for competing, (win or lose). I do find myself getting caught up in the emotions of wrestling and have booed and official for a bad call, but as I sit here and type this response (now calm) I can't justify this action.

I don't believe Skutt “cheats” by recruiting, but it is an benefit that many schools can't utilize because they don’t have the talent base to draw from. Therefore, many see it as an unfair advantage and that thought process has seemed to evolve into one of cheating. It’s not. Some may see it as wrong because it seems immoral or not ethical, but I’m certain this is accurate or fair.

I do believe Skutt has raised the bar in Nebraska wrestling (like it or not) which is good for all of the wrestling community.

Congrats to Skutt and to Sackett. We should be able to appreciate the quality of their wrestling and the accomplishment of this young man.

First off congrats to Skutt on another fine year and to Sackett on his great accompishment,I know we all complain that they recruit yes they do i just wish they had too under the same rules as everyone else 1. what is skutts school distict bounderies 2 Do they have to go by the same open enrollment dates as every other school in the state? 3. Do the partents of these wrestlers pay for the entire enrollment fee 4.and how much does the wrestling booster club give to the program a year ( i don't think most public schools have a wrestling booster club or have the money to form one)

Having taught and coached there, I can probably shed some light on where you're going with this.

1) Go to Millard Public Schools' website, or perhaps the OPS website and download the boundaries. My guess is that they're in the Millard South district. When Jesse Greise transferred from Millard West, he had to sit out 90 days, so I don't think SC is in MW's district.

2) Of course they go by the same date, they're an NSAA member school, aren't they?

3) Unless they do work study (do grounds work, school cleaning, etc.), they pay the full tuition. Visit their website and see how it works.

4) It takes absolutely zero dollars to form a booster club. It takes time, dedication, and effort. I get so sick and tired of hearing schools say "Lincoln Southwest has all that money, blah, blah, blah." Guess what, get off your butt and do something about it. Contact your alumni, form bylaws, and quit whining. Sheesh.

As far as recruiting goes--here's a newsflash: Every January LPS (and perhaps other school districts in the state) allows all high schools to have an 8th grade open house. All teachers and sponsors of all activities and curriculum areas are represented. Enough said.

In Nebraska, schools like Skutt (Pius, Creighton Prep, etc.) don't have boundaries of their own. Their boundaries are the same as the public school's boundaries in which they exist. I believe Skutt sits in Millard South's public school boundaries, therefore I believe Skutt's boundaries are the same as Millard South's, unless I am mistaken and they are in a different public school's boundaries.

Another example in Lincoln is Pius. They are in Lincoln East's boundaries, so all transfer rules apply to the boundaries of Lincoln East.

I just want to see them in class A since all those boys are located in class A area. I'm sure they would win it team wise, but I think it would be better comp. for them. Are these boys going there just to win state titles? I don't know that is why I'm asking.

I would like to see how many of the wrestlers at Skutt live in their district then, and don't all schools have kids on their team outside their distict they don't, of the 4 state team champions or top 5 finishers i bet, don't know for sure but i bet its maybe 4 out of 20 if that what ever happened to home town pride.

Where I was sitting, right in the front of the Class B and C mats, no one was booing any Skutt kids, and actually when Sackett won, they were some of the first to stand up and clap for him.

I was one of the first to stand up and clap for him. Winning state four times is incredible and IMO deserves alot of respect, I don't care where they are from. And while it is crazy and may seem unfair for any school to dominate as much as they have and win that many consecutive team titles, the wrestlers have to work for that and I think they help get press coverage of wrestling and in a way promote the sport, which is never a bad thing. Congrats to Sackett on his fourth and to Skutt on yet another state title.

10 of the 14 kids live within the schools district... of course they do... now. What about before they came there? Where were they recruited from? Were their parents found jobs and moved to Skutts district to live? I'm just asking. That is what I would consider illegal recruiting. Of course the kids work hard but when you have hand picked the best of the best to attend your school all they have to do is work just as hard as everyone else and they'll stay the best. I have no doubt they have a wonderful program and wonderful facilities.
