Only a few more days to register. You can go online @ corncobnationals.com to see entries so far, to see if it is worth your time. Only 3 from NE going so far.

This is FR/GR season why would you host a folkstyle tourney at this time?

Because some wrestlers stick with folkstyle and don't care about FR & GR? |

And they are wrestlers who are satisfied with their talent they got and not looking to go to the next level.

Or they are wrestlers who want to excell at the discipline that actually matters. Opposed to learning a bunch of tactics and skills that may or may not help when the REAL SEASON starts.

If you mean the international level, then yes, you would be right. You won't be making the Olympic team without wrestling free/greco. HOWEVER, You certainly can be a college stud sticking just with folkstyle tourneys. |

I noticed our kids in our club that were fair folkstyle wrestlers come back the following year after wrestling a FS/GR season and their folkstyle had went to the next level.
So yes even though you may not be looking to try out for the Olympics in the future FS/GR will help you excel in folkstyle. |

I have to agree with Kearney MatCat. Time after time I have seen kids wrestle FS/GR and see their folkstyle raise to the next level.
When a wrestler continues to wrestle folkstyle all the time they tend to wrestle with the same technique and practice the same way. With FS/GR they have to change their technique and become more well rounded as a wrestler. In folkstyle, if a wrestler is good they can be sloppy on their shots and still score on most people. In freestyle, a wrestlers takedowns improve because if they do not finish their shots properly or immediately finish the shot their opponent may score. Even Greco has been very helpful. A great example was when Andy was a sophomore weighing about 100 lbs if he was soaking wet. He was wrestling a defending state champion that cut a lot of weight to get down to 105. His opponent body locked Andy and had him up in the air. My only thought was I hope he lands safely and does not get hurt. Next I see Andy adjusting his weight and finally got a foot on the mat then hit a throw himself. Andy said he used his Greco experience to help him in that situation. I can come up with even more examples, but I am trying to keep this short. If you don't believe me then all you need to do is look at what the best teams and coaches in the nation do. The highest level you can go in folkstyle is Division I. The top Division I teams in the past 20 or 30 years have been Iowa, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and Minnesota. Wrestlers from every one of those teams compete in freestyle in the off season. To paraphrase something Warren Buffet said once. If you want to be the best at something you must learn what the best in your field does and do what they do. |

Tournament went great! Much bigger brackets thatn last year. Seth Kubik and Jake Anderson rocked their brackets!
I would have to agree with all of you about f/gr helping all around. My son started f/gr last year and it really helped him. The reason we went to this tournament was to get mat time, no matter what the style. My son is also getting f/gr in this summer. You can push f/gr all you want but the kids are just not there. The state aau f/gr tournament had a poor turnout. Where we live there is not much available so we go wherever we can to get wrestling, whatever style! This message has been edited.
