Big problem with the Class C ratings is that he has a Class b wrestler rated....

How can Volkmer from Syracuse be rated at C215, and not Matthiessen from Milford. Matthiessen pinned Volkmer this year in under a minute, as he has pinned all other opponents this year under a minute with the exception of one loss to Bayer of Howells. But I don't think anyone in the State at 215 can beat Bayer.

You have to take the ratings with a healthy grain of salt. That's all there is to it.
The person doing the rating likely doesn't have all the facts regarding all of Matthiessen's matches. And there are biases involved, intentionally or not, by anyone doing ratings. Wherever the person is from, what teams they happen to like, what style of wrestling they like, etc. Personal bias always comes into play. |

Dont even start about kids being favored goblin or what kind of style they rater likes. The person that is chosen to rate the kids out there knows what there doing. So dont get all sour when you dont see the name YOU want in there.

I believe Sackett and Katusin should be ranked higher, while Cardenas and Kottas a little lower. If these rankings are even close to accurately predicting the state finishes, God help the rest of class B.

Thank you for the reply goblin. I understand that the coaches doing the ratings are under the gun by a lot of influences, but I feel they were given the honor of rating others and they should take a little time and research all the wrestlers, instead of going by how they placed at state last year

I have no clue who did the rating. I am not taking a shot at the rater. I am just saying that people have biases; and they come into play. Intentionally or not.
Take the ratings, any ratings, with a grain of salt. This is all I am saying. In the end, its the performance at districts and state that matter. Not the opinion of a rater. |

Ratings don't really mean much to some people, being the underdog can really make the rated guy look bad if beats him.

Ratings give people something to read in the paper....wrestling gets so little publicity anyway. Where are the highlights on tv or a full page article about the tournaments?

The only ratings that matter, in the end, are the ones that come out the third Saturday in February. If you aren't in the top six then...it doesn't really matter WHERE you are at now, does it?

Exactly. Like football; gives people something to think about, argue about, etc. They have their place. Luckily, things are settled on the mat and not in the paper though. Speaking of lack of coverage; the Bellevue Leader has had very little coverage of wrestling this year, in my opinion. Being from the Bellevue area; it's a little discouraging. I thought they had done a decent job in the last couple of years; but close to no coverage this year ... so far. |

Actually, its likely coaches ratings were submitted quite some time ago as per a deadline. Would we rather go without ratings, I don't thinks so. Ratings coaches don't necessarily agree that it is an honor to do this job Mr./Mrs. Parent, get that idea out of your mind.
