We are having a fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 13th for Kim Baumert, a former teacher in Elkhorn, who was injured in an accident in November while working on his home.

One of the silent auction items is of particular interest to our wrestling community. Brad Vering donated a Team USA Wrestling outfit and an autographed poster (2'x3'). This Team USA Wrestling outfit is size XL, but can be exchanged for any size, child or adult. Because we are trying to raise the most we can to help Kim and his family, we decided to give the Nebraska wrestling community the chance to bid on these items without attending the fundraiser. If you would like to send in a proxy bid, you can email Ken Ritzdorf (kritzdorf@epsne.org). He will enter your bid amounts during the silent auction on Sunday, Feb. 13th. We appreciate your help in raising money for a great man and his family.

More silent auction items can be found at http://sites.google.com/site/kimbaumertfamily.

Below is more information about Kim and the fundraiser.

Kim Baumert Fundraiser

A fundraising event is being planned to benefit the family of Kim and Barb Baumert of Elkhorn.

Long time Elkhorn teacher Kim Baumert suffered a severe spinal cord injury as well as other injuries November 7th in an accident at his home. Kim was finishing siding near the top of house when he fell from the scaffolding.

After spending three weeks at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Kim spent one week at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lincoln before moving to the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital on December 8th where he has begun rehabilitation.

Kim Baumert has taught thirty-one years at Elkhorn Public Schools starting in 1978. After retiring from teaching in 2009, Kim continues his work for the school district in many other areas including athletic events, building improvements, field maintenance, and transportation.

Kim is a 1971 graduate of Blair High School. He entered the military spending two years serving our country. Upon his return, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska where he graduated in 1978.

Kim's father, Gene (d. 2006) was a long time administrator at Blair Pulic Schools. His mother, Betty, resides in Blair. Kim's bother and sister, Kip and Kristy, are also graduates of Blair High School and live in the area.

His wife Barb is in her 23rd year of teaching and coaching - also spending her entire career in Elkhorn. Their children attended Elkhorn High School. They are Jamie (recent graduate of Central Connecticut College), Kellie (student at UNO) and Maggie (senior at Elkhorn High School).

To help with some of the expenses that the family have and will incur, a fundraising event is being planned for February 13th at Elkhorn South High School. The event will include a soup feed, entertainment as well as live and silent auctions. A more detailed listing will be posted in January.

Please mark your calendar for this event. You can get information about the event on the web at http://sites.google.com/site/kimbaumertfamily
For those who wish to donate an item for auction, please contact Gretchen Patras (gretchen.finkepatras@cox.net) or Ken Ritzdorf (kritzdorf@epsne.org). If you would like to donate cash at this time, an account has been set up at American Interstate Bank in Elkhorn.

Only 6 more days to bid on these fantastic items.

Remember, we can exchange for any youth or adult size on the Team USA Wrestling clothes.

Email your bids, or feel free to come out to the benefit and bid in person.
