Congratulations to TEAM Nebraska All-Stars 18/15 & Under. The Huskers took first place in Out-of-State Team Competition with a total of 88 points. Finishing 2nd was Team New Mexico with 56 points. Other teams in contention were from California, Florida, Texas, and Wyoming. There were 1284 wrestlers competing, representing 24 states. Very, very, tough competition.
Teams consisted of 15 wrestlers with placements points gained for 1st thru 6th place wrestslers. The Nebraska All-Stars consisted of wrestlers from Columbus, Winside, Kearney, Gering, and Scottsbluff. Danny Rodriguez (Kearney)was 1st at 88 lbs. in the 15&U Division; Jay Sherer (Columbus)was 1st @ 116 lbs. in the 15&U Division and was Outstanding Wrestler in the 15U Division. Shane Castillo (Kearney)was 3rd @ 102 lbs. in the 15&U Division; Dustin Rohloff (Columbus) was 3rd @ 171 lbs. in the 18U Division; Brock Smith (Scottsbluff)was 5th in the 15&U 94 lbs. Division; Sergio Polermo was 4th and Alex Maldenaldo was 5th in the 18&U 125 lbs. division; Nick Micek (Columbus) finished 5th @ 171 lbs. in the 18U Division and Thai Applegate (Columbus) was 6th @ 103 lbs. 18U Division. Other wrestlers competing on the team but did not place were 15U: Andrew Sok, 109 lbs. Windside Jordan Gonzalez 130 lbs. Gering 18U: Tyler Weber 112 lbs. Columbus Danny Tuzson 130 lbs. Scottsbluff Nick Hall 135 lbs. Columbus Josh Sok 152 lbs. Winside I think I got everyone, I apologize in advance if I forgot someone or incorrectly stated the tournament result. Guadelupe Gonzalez was heading up a team of 12&U competitors. I don't know their team results but I think his son was 1st in his age and weight. I was excited to see a team called Extreme Nebraska comprised of a bunch of young wrestlers from the Pan Handle. I don't know their results, but it looked like they were doing well. I know other Nebraska kids were competing....sorry I don't have their results. Please post if you know how they did. It was just exciting to see all the kids representing the Husker State so proudly. It's always a thrill to expose Nebraska's wrestling potential in Tournaments of this magnitude. |

The team was put together on the floor of the Western Heritage Event Center the day of the tournament. Teams consisted of 15 wrestlers. Originally I had vehicles and commmitments from Columbus kids to wrestle on November 8-10 but then the tournament dates were changed to November 1-3, I lost one of our rented vehicles and some kids had other commitments. This cut me to 8 of our local wrestlers. Thus when I arrived in Denver and got together with Albert Rodriquez, Guadelupe Gonzalez, Randy Smith and Mr. Tuszon from Scottsbluff, did we agree to put our kids together and enter a Nebraska Team. We didn't do to bad for an ad-hoc entry.
As far as what town/schools the boys are going to, I think I put that in the initial post in parenthesis. I do have their age divisions, but I don't know what grades the kids are going into specifically or the weights they plan to wrestle. From my conversations with them, I don't know that they know for sure. All I can speak for is the Columbus kids and what they say they want to wrestle and what they actually will wrestle will depend on how they manage their weight. You can make an educated guess based upon the weight classes they entered on what weight class they might logically attempt to make. |
