If you do not make weight, can you bump up and do you have some time to cut if needed?

JH MOM,

Yes, you can move up a weight if you don't make it.

No, once you step on scale to weigh that is it. There is no more time to make weight after that. Best to ready before weighins.

Thanks, LG. I hope he is ready. It is getting harder and harder for him to cut to 95#!

Why not go up to the next weight then? If you are going on to the USA Folkstyle Nationals you don't have qualify at a certain weight, you can wrestle whatever weight you want.

If he's trying to qualify for the Middle school dual team, he can not go lower than what he wrestled at the state tournament. That's why we changed the weights to match the Middle school national dual weights. This cuts down on 90% of the wrestle offs at the end of the tournament.

matcat is right...for nationals, not dual team nationals, you can wrestle whatever you want.

He really wanted to try out but has a big school commitment on the same weekend as the duals. We will try next year! I do think that since this is not a major deal for him, he will bump up to 102#. He will probably get owned but it is good practice for state.

What was the deal with the 2-1/2 hour late start yesterday? I heard everything from the new bracket software not working...to club teams showing up after the registration deadline and having to redo the brackets...

I heard that they just had over 200 walk-ins and couldn't catch up.
By the way, my son made weight and made it on the team. So even with the late start, it was worth the wait.

They should have a Saturday evening weigh-in that way they get a jump start on the walk-ins or simply have no walk-ins at all.
What happened to that good ole manual bracketing? That software bracketing is crap as far as I'm concerned. I've heard nothing good about computer bracketing.
Our tournament will stick to manual bracketing and we will start on time every year, guaranteed.

competition was good - it is to bad everyone was set and ready to go and had to wait on computer problems. They need to do saturday evening weigh-ins or autobracket. People expect to be their most of the day as long as the tourney starts on time. Those teams from Kimball, Mitchell, Gering, and Scottsbluff couldn't have been to happy. It unfortunate to hear people saying they weren't coming next year because of the problems thay have had the past few years A couple of positives were the registration process and weigh-ins. Pretty smooth compared to the past few years. We will be back!

First I would like to say thank you to all the fans, and wrestlers that were patient with all of the USA staff. We ran into a few problems Sunday. Hopefully we learned a few things and we are very willing to listen to any feedback you all have.
1. 200 walk-ins Lesson learned charge more for walk-ins, or dont except them. Online registration.
2. over 20 weight changes rebracketed.
3.1 computer doing the bracketing.
( Use AUTOBRACKET ) We had plans for 2 to 3 computers, but lost the softwear on one.
4. weight-ins were maybe to long.
5. the computer program we used we had a few glitches. One if you rebracket and print you had to reprint all brackets. Had a few problems with the bigger brackets getting the bye in the right spots. Now I'm only one of the Board members, but we have all discussed the problems and hope to resolve all the problems we faced.I really do believe Fred did a great job in organizing the event.
Admissions and registration was alot smoother. 8 mats instead of 5 was great. With a few more changes this event can be as good as any and be ran on time.
Thanks
Rusty

If the 2.5 hour delay at the beginning did not happen all matches would have been completed by 5:00, which is plenty good for a tournament. I also heard some complaining about a 45 minute rest between matches. I have not been to any summer tournaments that you get a 45 minute rest when you are wrestling at the end of the bracket. The OTC last weekend was the same way. I think that just makes kids more tough and prepares them mentally for the high school season. It is just mat time don't get so excited about winning and losing during the summer. Work on technique and your style and have fun competing. I think this tournament is on the verge of being a very good tournament. I hope that people will support it again next year.

That one was my fault. In the rules meeting, I said that we were using NSAA rules from this past year minus the exceptions that I had mentioned about period time, tech falls, and lil kids warnings. I'm so used to USA not having a rest time rule, that I completely forgot about mentioning it.

We will be having a meeting here soon to go over this tournament, and keep our ideas fresh. If anyone has ideas that can help us, please feel free to email any of us these ideas. Our Officers' emails can be found at www.nebraksausawrestling.org We really want to learn everything we can to make this a great tournament that everyone wants to attend.
