First off, does anyone care to adjust their predictions on our season record after our stellar 25-7 win over Division I-AA Maine?

Second, we didn't beat Mizzou last year, they beat themselves. Their coach took the most mobile QB in the Big XII and made him stay in the pocket no matter what.

Third, we beat Pitt last year because we still had some swagger and self-confidence going into that game. Their QB Tyler Palko hadn't yet developed. If that game had been played in November, Pitt wins by three TDs.

Lance...I'm sticking with 8-3. After watching tonight's game, I'm sure those two numbers are going to be involved in the final outcome. Which order, however, is up in the air.

It's brutally obvious, though, that Bill Callahan needs an offensive coordinator and a running backs coach, since it's obvious whatever is in place there now doesn't know jack. First and goal on the 1 and we throw THREE passes against a team that could barely stop our ground game???

Whatever they're paying Kevin Cosgrove, though, they're getting a hell of a deal...the Blackshirts looked pretty good tonight, and they had to. Between the horrid play calling and the turnovers, they pretty much saved the day.

Right now, KU and Baylor are the only gimmes on the schedule. That makes 3 wins for sure...8 others are up in the air.

I think Wake and Baylor are gimmes. KU, Mizzou, and Iowa State (ISU at home) are "probablys". K-State, Colorado, and Pitt are 50/50 games that our season hinges on. Texas Tech and Oklahoma are "on any given Saturday" games, although I don't feel so bad after seeing OU get beat at home.

Baylor and KU are gimmes.

Wake and Pitt are probablies.

Mizzou, ISU, Texas Tech and KSU are "if all goes well" games.

Colorado is at Colorado -- no dice.

OU? Don't let the TCU game fool you...we have two chances -- slim and none, and slim has left the building.

We'll be 8-3...whether it's wins/losses or vice versa is up in the air.

Baylor is the only gimme left on the schedule. KU has one of the best secondaries in the big 12 and when that goes up agains a passing offense that cant pass that means trouble.

Kansas' secondary gave up 299 yards passing to Florida Atlantic on Saturday. I think we'll do just fine against them. Last year we had one of the most talented secondaries in the country but no pass rush. That is Kansas' problem this year. Unless Taylor completely forgets how to throw the ball or our O-Line completely forgets how to block (actually a distinct possibility after last night's game) we beat KU by three touchdowns.

Kansas might have gave up 299 yards but that dosnt meen they have a bad secondary. Last year USC gave up over 400 yards to cal and i think we can all agree that they where the best team. Kansas has the most talented secondary

There are NO "gimme's".

The Huskers did not look that good against Maine, although the score might lead people to think otherwise. The Black Bears all but shut them down in the first half, and the game, as a whole, was a defensive battle.

If this game is going to be an indicator of the rest of the season, my 8-4 (bowl game loss included) prediction will probably drop to 6-5 (no bowl invite).

Husker33, you didn't read my post very well. I didn't say Kansas had a bad secondary. I said they didn't have a very good pass rush. But you did illustrate my point by bringing up USC. Two of their defensive linemen were first round NFL picks. That means they had a good pass rush. Can you guess the one game where they didn't have a very good pass rush? You guessed it...Cal.

Yes, that is probably true. It has nothing at all to do with the topic at hand, but it is probably true.

Hey Stallion...any chance Stevie P. can get Chadron State on the docket for next year? Might need a replacement if USC decides they don't need an easy W that bad next year...

No, because Chadron State said they wanted to toughen up their schedule for the next few years. Stevie will have to look elsewhere. I hear Black Hills State in Spearfish, SD might be looking, though.

Remember...our two best recievers are hurt, Fluellen and Le Flore. We had Nunn (who you think could catch Taylor's passes considering they went to JUCO together) and Hardy(he could catch anything, as long as it wasn't inside the 8 yard line). I was impressed by Taylor and our punting teams, kickoff return still needs some work (ok a lot of work), we still need a guy that can split the uprights for PATs, and Green scares me at CB. The guy couldn't read a screen from a fade on Saturday. Taylor was very poised and for the most part, was on target. The O-line needs to step it up a bit to. Don't matter how good you are in the backfield if your line doesn't block for you (#79 needs to be pulled big time). The only person that can play behind a bad O-line was Barry Sanders (and maybe that Calhoun from Wisconsin, that kid was unbeilevable, definiately a good replacement for Anthony Davis, he transefered from Colorado). Well, there's my two cents, we end 6-5 this year with wins over Maine, Wake, Pitt (horrible outing this weekend), Baylor, K-State (another bad outing), and I think we will have Kansas's number (even thought they got robbed against Texas last year). Also, Texas is your National Champs this year, I dislike USC and I think Vinny will lead that team to a big win over the Trojans.

Actually Tim it was Franz Hardy who went to JUCO with Taylor, which made it even more surprising that he dropped a couple of passes...he should've known how hard Taylor throws. With Franz's 4.28 speed and his working with Taylor last year, I think he's our #1 receiver for the forseeable future. I posted this next part on a Husker message board, and it's four reasons why I'm still optimistic about this season:

1. Much better pass rush than last year. More pressure up front means less work for the secondary.
2. Reliable kicker. It's frustrating to have a long drive and then miss a field goal or a PAT. (Congdon missed the one PAT but hit his next five kicks, including a couple of field goals that weren't exactly chip shots)
3. Better QB. Has less mobility, but is much more consistent and can stretch the field vertically. And ask those receivers...this guy throws HARD.
4. Good return game. Our average starting position last year was horrible. We won't have to drive the length of the field every possession, and I think it's just a matter of time before we bust one for a score.
If we had these last year, we still would've gone 8-3. Do we have improvements to make? Of course! But we will get better.

As a reminder, in 1992 we had a rough go against I-AA Middle Tennessee State, only ahead 14-7 at the half. In 1997, we actually trailed Central Florida (I-AA at the time) 17-14 at the half, and Memorial Stadium fans were booing Scott Frost. We only won that game by 14 points, but we recovered quite nicely that season.

Ok, who was the Nunn that was catching Taylor's passes from that JUCO game they showed on during the Husker game? I checked up and I see they have Nunn as a sophomore and I know he played for us last year. Wierd, what a coinsidence.

Butler had another receiver named Nunn, and if I'm not mistaken, he was white.

Number 4 on ur list Stallion has been found i think. I think we found a good returner in Terrence Nunn. Had a few good punt returns. One should have been a fumble but hey the refs cant get em' all.
