Hey Rocker -- Don't know if you heard that VH is reformed with DLR on vocals. Michael Anthony is not back though...EVH's son Wolfgang is on bass guitar and reports are he's smokin' hot (although will never replace Mike's unique personality).

Mikey C,
What happened to Michael Anthony? Did he decide not to come back or did the Van Halen Brothers "decide for him" like they did for Sammy Hagar?

Dunno...I'm thinking he was probably tired of Eddie's crap as well. He plays in Hagar's band on occasion, so he's probably still having fun on the road.

Hope DLR lasts longer this time around with the band than:
1. His last stint with the band (like two weeks in 98?)
2. Gary Cherone's stint with the band
3. DLR's supply of Rogaine

You axed, you got it.

Eddie is a shambles of what he once was. Many question if he's a meth addict. Judging by his appearance, that is a possibility. He's far worse off than he was when we saw him at the Qwest Center in 2004. Don't get me wrong, I've been a VH fan since 1978 when their first album came out. Saw them on tour 3 times with DLR and loved the shows. At the same time, I had always been a Sammy Hagar fan and when Diamond Dave and the Van Halen brothers split and Sammy eventually took over, I was in hog heaven. I figured it was DLR who was the problem all along. But soon discovered otherwise.

Now that Sammy has been summarily dumped twice and Michael Anthony thrown off because he associates with Sammy, one realizes that the main problem is the one and only EVH. While he's probably one of the greatest guitar heroes ever, he sucks as a band mate.

I won't go see this reincarnation.

I will be more than happy to go see Sammy and the Wabo's with special guest Michael Anthony aka The Other Half. And if things work out, I may be in Cabo this October for Sammy's 60th Birthday bash (which coincidentally is a day after my own xxth birthday... Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin)

Sammy and Mikey Rock the House!!!

Rocker,

When I was in Hy-Vee the other day, I stumbled across a copy of Guitar World magazine with EVH on the cover. Dude...he looks like he's 80 YEARS OLD with dyed hair. And he was shirtless...man, I don't even look at MY bare chest in the mirror, and I know it looks better than THAT!!! (Of course, I lose points for the Dunlop Disease...LOL)

I can't imagine that DLR can sing worth a crap anymore. When he and Sammy did their duo tour together a few years ago, I read a TON of reviews on how Sammy kicked Dave's, ahem, butt on stage night after night. And, obviously, Sammy and Michael have other outside interests that keep them going (Sammy's Cabo Wabo and award-winning tequila, Mike's AWESOME hot sauce), making them fresher for the stage where they can just unload and unleash.

On the other hand...EVH was in MUCH BETTER shape than I was that night at the Qwest Center. I'd venture a guess that momentum on THAT front has shifted, however... Big Grin

BTW, Rocker...how long HAVE you been 29 now??? woot

It's really sad.

Dave was a great showman and had a decent voice. But as far as I'm concerned, Sammy took the band to a whole 'nother level. I'm sure they will gross millions of dollars for this tour (if it actually happens) but none of them will be mine.

Sammy and Mikey will be just fine with their outside interests plus the fact they get along great and still love playing together. I wish I would have made Sandstone last summer...

I may be celebrating the 15th anniversary of my 29th birthday with Sammy and Mikey in Cabo this fall!!!

Hagar came to my airbase this year and is an awesome dude, actually came back the next weekend at his request because he couldn't get to everyone the first time. Nice to see that fame and money doesn't always get to everyone.

peace

Van Halen got inducted without Eddie, Alex, and D.L. Roth! None of them were there! Wonder who was there for them, BOSTON? LOL

Not likely it was Boston as vocalist Brad Delp was found dead on Friday. Click here for a story...

Just the 2 who did their best to keep the band together for as long as it was. Ed has checked himself in to rehab (thank goodness) don't know where Al was and Diamond Dave was his usual too full of himself to share the spotlight.

Rock Hall Welcomes R.E.M., Van Halen
Ronettes, Grandmaster Flash Also Inducted

NEW YORK -- Fragments of party band Van Halen accepted induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, punk poet Patti Smith brought her earthy growl and the Ronettes' Ronnie Spector thanked everyone but her ex-husband.

Athens, Ga., rock band R.E.M. and the institution's first hip-hop act, Grandmaster Flash, were also ushered in during the hall's 22nd induction ceremony.

Only Van Halen's second lead singer, Sammy Hagar, and ex-bass player Michael Anthony turned up for Monday's ceremony. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen has just gone into rehab and original lead singer David Lee Roth stayed away in a tiff over what he would perform.

Hagar said he wished his bandmates could be there, but "it's out of our control."

"It's hard for Mike and I to be up here to do this, but you couldn't have kept me away from this with a shotgun," Hagar said.

It took less to keep Roth away. He stood up the hall, reportedly because he couldn't agree on what to sing with the band Velvet Revolver, which offered a tribute. Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the Hall of Fame, said Roth was offered a chance to sing a song of his choice with the house band. "The decision not to come was solely his, not ours."

Hagar and Anthony joined Velvet Revolver to sing "Why Can't This Be Love."

The annual ceremony at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel ballroom was televised live for the first time on VH1 Classic and streamed on aol.com.

Shy and fighting back tears as she accepted induction, Smith recalled friends and family who didn't live to see the day. Shortly before he died, Smith's husband Fred "Sonic" Smith asked her when she did make the hall of fame to "please accept it like a lady and not to say any curse words."

The bohemian poet straddled the hippie and punk eras, with her album "Horses" setting a standard for literate rock. She performed her biggest hit, "Because the Night," co-written with Bruce Springsteen, and the Rolling Stones' classic "Gimme Shelter."

Smith's mother also didn't live to see her daughter make the hall of fame, but passed on some instructions.

"I'm not going to make it," she recalled her mother saying. "When you do, sing your mother's favorite song, the one I like to vacuum to." Saying "this is for you, mom," Smith performed her 1977 song "Rock 'n' Roll N-----."

With jewelry dangling from his hair, a mustachioed Keith Richards inducted the Ronettes, the New York City girl group who sang 1960s era pop symphonies like "Be My Baby" and "Baby I Love You." He recalled hearing them the first time on a tour together in England.

"They could sing all their way right through a wall of sound," Richards said. "They didn't need anything. They touched my heart right there and then and they touch it still."

Lead singer Ronnie Spector thanked a list of people from Cher to Springsteen to her publicist - but made no mention of ex-husband Phil Spector, the producer whose gigantic "wall of sound" is synonymous with the act. Phil Spector's trial for the murder of an actress at his suburban Los Angeles mansion is due to start next week.

After the Ronettes sang a trio of their hits, bandleader Paul Shaffer came to the microphone to read a note from Phil Spector, who said "I wish them all the happiness and good fortune the world has to offer."

Hall officials paid tribute to one of the institution's founders, record executive Ahmet Ertegun, who died in December. One of his top artists at Atlantic, Aretha Franklin, sang the first million-seller she made with Ertegun, "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)."

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, including vocalist Melle Mel, leads the rap revolution at the rock hall. Their Reagan-era hit "The Message" was a milestone message from urban America. Jay-Z was lined up for the induction speech.

With 25 years needing to pass between an act's first recording and rock hall eligibility, it means the vanguard of hip-hop stars will become eligible in coming years.

R.E.M. anticipated a happy reunion with drummer Bill Berry, who had left the band in 1997 after suffering an aneurysm onstage two years earlier.

R.E.M. largely invented the indie rock scene out of Athens, Ga., in the early 1980s. Critical hits like "Radio Free Europe" gave way to mainstream hits like "Losing My Religion" in the early 1990s. The band is still active as a trio with Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills.

Hope it's to go to another facility.

Major disappointment not to at least see Alex there. We knew Eddie's situation and DLR's perpetual arrogance were going to keep those two away, but no Alex???

A shameful day for the Van Halen family...probably the ugliest induction in the history of the R&R HOF.
