Aplington-Parkersburg is a small high school in Northeast Iowa. 2 of their grads knocked heads a few times when the Chiefs' center, Casey Weigmann (U. of Iowa) blocked the Packer's defensive end, Aaron Kampman (U. of Iowa). What's really amazing is they represent 50% of the A-P grads starting in the NFL. Darren De Vries (U. of Iowa) is at defensive end for the Detroit Lions and Brad Meester (U. Northern Iowa) starts at offensive guard for Jacksonville Jaguars. Not bad for a high school with 3 year enrollment of 187.
My son went to KC today and called to say that there was a huge tailgate going on in the parking lot before the game. About half of them wore KC gear and about half wore Packer gear. They were flying flags of Chiefs, Packers, Iowa, UNI, and Aplington-Parkersburg. Nothing like small town pride. |
