Junior Varsity![]() Location: Lincoln, Nebraska Registered: January 22, 2003 Posts: 794 ![]() | hahaha... Bill Callahan will be the best thing thats ever happened to this football program in less that 4 years... I love it how us husker fans called ourselves the best fans in the nation for 30 years and then when transition hits, 75% of them turn in to bandwagon fans that can't take a tough season... Well good, lets get the season tickets into the hands of real fansThis message has been edited. Last edited by: S0404, |

Guarenteed they would not have won a game... And thats with players dedicated to football 6 days a week and 12 hours a day... and the most elite players in the country... Now think of Callahan trying to do relatively the same thing with the huskers team with 5 days a week max, and 3 hours a day with the team as a whole.... Frank Solich left the cupboard empty and Callahans just in the process right now of getting every thing that he can out of the players we have, and filling the rest of the cupboard back up... it took USC 2 years and that's whose program that i see us closely resembling at this time except they are in a hotbed of talent... but i think the 3rd year (2006) will be when the huskers turn into a national powerhouse once again... There will be coaching changes defensively this off season... Elmo will be gone for sure, No clue about Cosgrove... We have good athletes right now but we have D-1 athletes only 1 deep and at some positions 2 deep... Great teams are made by dozens of great players... Theres a reason every recruit coming here says he wants to come here and win a national championship, the writing is on the wall... Callahan is an offensive genius and my guess is he has his guys lined up to come in here next season to coach the defense (Washington reported he was coming back as soon as he knew Elmo would be gone) So please people, be patient... Look at the athletes we are getting in here, as of now our recruiting class is #1 in the big 12... #1!!!!! Ahead of recruiting powers like Oklahoma and Texas and with perfect athletes for Callahans system... BE PATIENT!!!!! |

I loved how the nation's #1 rated secondary at the beginning of the season finished the year ranked 110th. Or that Joe Dailey's throwing mechanics still rival those of a pee wee league backup. I can't wait until we get all these great players in so they can be coached down by this clown car of a coaching staff. Like I said-Nebraska fans are getting exactly what they deserve. |

I thought they would carry our team throughout the year, and I thought that our secondary would be the strength of the team. After watching the season as a whole compared to last year, I have realized a couple of things: 1. It will be hard to replace Barrett, he has been the cornerstone of this defense for the last 3 years, WE need to have someone replace him 2. We need to go after a defensive line, ours is definately not what it used to be. 3. The reason why our defensive secondary was so good last year was because of turnovers.....we seemed to always come up with an interception at the right times. Our defense last year gave up a lot of yards, but we forced/fell into a ton of turnovers. Part of this was because of the presense of demorrio, and an existent d-line. We didn't produce very many turnovers this year, bottom line. 4. Next year with the addition of Bowman to our secondary we will have washington, bowman, and the bullock twins....i'm gonna assume grixby will turn into a nickel back because of depth. We will again have a great secondary, but our defensive line must get better, the best db's in the country can't cover receivers forever! 5. Joe Dailey will be our starter next year, and Beck will see some action throughout the year. Dailey is our only quarterback with any real d-1 playing time. I am a Dailey supporter, on our last drive he showed exactly what he is CAPABLE of. Remember people, he was only a sophomore this year starting in a system that he was not recruited for, and I believe he has shown glimpses hope. 6. Mulkey, Pilkinington, Nunn, and HERIAN returning at wideouts....we need to see an improvement in their routes....I was disappointed in the sharpness of their routes thorughout the year, they have talent and speed. 7. A great problem to have, Ross, Horne, Jackson, Greene, and now Lucky.....I believe Jackson is the running back that we have been needing. He is big, powerful, and can turn the corner.....Ross will have another great year next year when he's healthy, Horne will have to prove himself all over again....unless Greene puts some weight on his body all he will be is a running back that gets sweep plays. I have no idea about Lucky, but he's been heralded as one of the best recruits that we have landed in a long time.....let's hope he lives up to his billings. 8. We need a new returnman, simply put.....Panico can catch the ball extremely well....but he is SOOOOOOO slow. 9. Cosgrove, our defense showed what it was capable of playing against MIZZOU. Our players just weren't executing, we need to keep a defensive coordinator for more than 2 years to develop any kind of a dominant defense. I wish it would have been Pelini, but no point in crying over spilled milk. 10. Callahan, I hope Nebraska gives him at lost 4-5 years to implement his system. He has already shown he is a masterful recruiter, let's see if he can develop his players into a team that can return to the dominance of the nebraska teams of old. I was a solich supporter, and I hated to see him leave....but he did a pathetic job of recruiting. Callahan, best of luck to you, I just hope you get a fair shake! Go huskers!!!!!! The result is not how a man should be measured, the means at which he gets there is what matters. |

They were singled out by Callahan at the Iowa State game and that was sort of the straw that broke the camels back. Fabian is unlikely to be back either. There will be some very high profile players that will be leaving and it's going to keep them very short on depth again next year. Elmo is an ass of a coach on par with Jeff Jamrog with his yelling tactics. The most glaring problem I saw this season is we were actually worse by the end of the season. There wasn't one bit of improvement on either side of the ball. Piss poor coaching. I was all for letting go of Frank but Pedersen's judgement in those he hired is just terrible. |
Junior Varsity![]() Location: Lincoln, Nebraska Registered: January 22, 2003 Posts: 794 ![]() | quote: not saying we dont have talent (we dont compared to teams we should be rivaling in talent) but there is talent, but we don't have highly regarded WR's, We don't have a drop back QB with that great of an arm, We lost our main pass rush contributors from last year, and rip on rickets all you want but he was a solid tackler BTW the reason our defense looked so good last year is we ran a very simple cover 2 scheme and just blitzed from every direction because we had OLBs with the speed to compensate... but nothing that a tough offense would have any problem with... Yeah we have great center fielders for a secondary, but they could not cover a parapalegic in a swimming pool if it was man to man, especially if we don't have a pass rush... We lost Bingham and Johnson and we still manage to be 8th best in the country in stopping the run... Which brings me to my next point, sure we may have been good against the pass but we always got throttled against the run, so pick your poison but if we still had Demarrio and Hollowell Cosgrove would be a genius right now and BTW why rip on Callahan? He is running a brand spankin new offense with the same athletes as last year (minus a senior QB who may be terrible but was the leader of the team) and got MUCH more offensive output from them... Thats GREAT coaching with the limited time to work with that he had... I will say that Elmo is no good and thats why he is a goner and Pick125 1. We got a Kid out of Jenks Oklahoma named Phillip Dillard who went to the same highschool as Rocky Calmus, and his coach said he is better than Rocky was... Im not saying he will come in and be better than Barrett but he will be a great MLB 2. We are going to get a few DL's in this class, we already have a good DE in Zach Potter and remember Cariker will be back next year, and we just picked up a JUCO kid tonite named Cryer that has major NFL potential according to Emfinger 3. Bingo, and alot of this was luck, some of it was the secondary not wanting to play for Elmo, and some of it was scheme 4.Bingo again and Best secondary in the country may not be a reach 5. Beck will be the starter by the 5th game, and I'll have to say Adams will be the guy to start the season just because of how much better of an arm he has than Joe and he has been showing this in practice recently. 6. none of those guys you listed will start next year... We will have 2 true frosh guys that will be some of the best in the big12 even as frosh in Nyan Boateng, Lafell and Brodrick Hunter... Nyans a basketball kid that has insane speed and a 40 inch verticle, Lafell is a kid from Texas putting up insane numbers this year, and Brodrick is a kid that will kick a Corners ass then catch the ball and put on the afterburners, BIG physical kid... 7. Lucky will start with Ross getting 40% of the touches until later in the season and you will see Lucky getting more and more, Mark it now as long as he qualifies 8. We recruited Rands for this very reason and HB your wrong again both Bullocks twins and Washington all said they will be back next year |

![]() World Champion ![]() Registered: August 27, 2002 Posts: 6425 | I know about their meeting with Callahan this week and how pissed they were coming out of his office. Elmo being gone would be a good start but it doesn't change the fact that Cosgrove has never been a successful DC. Are you kidding? The best this University can hire is a middle of the road DC from a lousy conference? I understand he's on a 2 year contract so it looks good that he will be gone by the end of next year. It's a shame that Pedersen didn't use his holier than thou influence to keep Callahan from hiring this bozo. The Wisconsin people I talked to when he was hired were ready to drive him out of town. There were alot of kids that didn't want to be a part of what's going on down there this year. Callahan will do his exit interviews, find those that don't want to be around and they'll be gone. Funny story was a few weeks ago, a friend of mine was up at the Iowa State game and he sat next to an NFL scout in the pressbox. He asked the guy what he was doing there and the scout said "Watching the NU guys." When asked what for..the scout said don't believe all the BS you hear-that team has NFL talent. Take what you want from that story. |

World Champion![]() Location: Wayne, America Registered: October 20, 2002 Posts: 5714 | The only thing about this season that has REALLY bothered me was how awful the Blackshirts looked this season. 70 vs. Texas Tech, 45 vs. Kansas State, etc., etc. -- this was supposed to be a defense that was going to carry the team until it got its feet wet with the West Coast offense. Granted, the offense put the Blackshirts out on the field quite a bit, but I still think Cosgrove did more to dismantle the Nebraska defensive system than Bo Pelini did in building it up to where it was one of the best in the nation. There need to be some pink slips handed out in the offseason, and Cosgrove and the alleged A.D. should get the first two. Steve Pederson may have worked in the program previously, but running a second-rate Big Easy Conference athletic program is not the same as running the big show in Lincoln. He has proved he is incapable of being in that position at this level and needs to find something more suitable to his "talent" -- assistant SID at Cal Poly-Pomona leaps to mind.
