NHSCA HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS
NATIONAL WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP
TO DEBUT THIS MARCH IN CLEVELAND

EASTON, PA. – The National High School Coaches Association is known for many reasons.

But what the NHSCA might be best known for is its irreplaceable Senior National High School Wrestling Championships and Convention. The event is held every year in late March and was first conducted in 1990. Now the event features a national convention and formal banquet, and attracts over 800 state champions and state runners-up from 48 states and every serious college wrestling coach.

And the prestigious list of U.S. Olympians and NCAA Champions who competed in the Senior Nationals when they were high school athletes, guys like Cael Sanderson, Brandon Slay, Stephen Abas, and Eric Guerrero, adds luster to the event – making it the crown jewel of high school wrestling.

Now, the NHSCA introduces a new top-flight event that will showcase talented high school junior wrestlers in the same way the Senior Nationals have done for 15 years.

“We’ve developed and decided to launch this event in response to an overwhelming desire from high school and college wrestling coaches alike, “ said Bob Ferraro, Executive Director of the NHSCA. “That desire is to see the nation’s top high school juniors compete in a first-class event that is modeled after the legendary Senior Nationals”.

The event will take place March 29-April 1 in Cleveland, Ohio at the Public Hall Convention Center. The top 8 place-winners in each weight class will be declared High School Junior All-Americans and qualify to compete in the 2006 NHSCA Senior Nationals.

The finals matches will be wrestled at 8pm on Friday night, April 1, immediately after the first day of wrestling for the Senior Nationals. This will allow the best juniors to showcase their talent and allow for college coaches to view the action, first-hand.

“There were several dates we could have chosen to conduct the High School Junior Nationals, but we decided the best way to showcase the juniors was to make their event an under card for the Senior Nationals,” said Ferraro. “This will give them the opportunity to display their talents for the college coaches who will already be in attendance for the Senior Nationals.”

Last year 192 college and university coaches attended the Senior Nationals Championship. The list included the top 25 Division I wrestling programs in the country.

The event is open to all high school juniors in the country. The deadline to register for the event is March 25, but early registration is highly encouraged as the event is expected to reach full capacity. Wrestlers may register now, but change weights up through March 25.

Every high school junior wrestler that competes in this event will receive free admission to the Senior Nationals as a spectator.
