Junior High Location: Omaha, NE Registered: December 17, 2002 Posts: 541 | I saw him at UNK's Booster event this last weekend. An awsome event by the way. He has a large frame on him. I would bet he is probably 240-250ish. |
Junior High Registered: January 06, 2008 Posts: 523 | Austin Carmichael and Chase White would be an interesting battle for 149. Due to collegiate experience, I imagine the edge would go to Carmichael but would guess White will end up at 157 but to face some tough competition including Oliver, Allen and Starostka. I don't know anything about the out-of-staters. Anybody? |

Junior High Registered: January 06, 2008 Posts: 523 | Thanks Huzker! You can tell I haven't been paying close attention lately. This is a tough roster. Out of curiosity, how would UNK stack up against UNL? Besides Maryville, where did the rest of the UNO wrestlers go? Who and how many chose to retire? |
Junior High Location: Omaha, NE Registered: December 17, 2002 Posts: 541 | I think they would stack up well against UNL. They look really down by looking at their roster. Only 23 bodies in the room makes it tough to have a good practice environment. Bainter was a 2x champ and 4x placer from Norton whichalways puts out great kids. Couto is a JUCO AA and state champ in CT. I think he i pretty tough. Eric Jones was a 2x state champ from WA and a JUCO All-American last year placing 5th Crumley is a 2x state champ from CO. Johnson is a 3x state place from SD Stots is JUCO All-American. He is very talented. |

Rookie Registered: August 26, 2005 Posts: 64 | Huskers vs. Lopers would be an interesting dual in 2011 Just a quick glance at the rosters/accomplishments I could see this being the projected lineups... 125-Shawn Nagel, UNL v. Josh Smith, UNK 133-Ridge Kiley, UNL v. Jordan White/Tim Crocker/Stephen Wiemer, UNK 141-Luis DeAnda/Skylar Galloway/Chad Stroh, UNL v. Dalton Jensen, UNK 149-Chris Hacker/Ross Grande v. Brock Coutu/Raufeon Stots, UNK 157-Tyler Koehn/Brandon Wilbourn, UNL v. T.J. Hepburn, UNK 165-Robert Kokesh, UNL v. Joey Wilson, UNK v. 174-Caleb Kolb, UNL v. Mark Fiala/Matt Duffy/Drew Comito, UNK 184-Josh Ihnen, UNL v. Ross Brunkhardt, UNK 197-Spencer Johnson, UNL v. Matt Lenaugh/Nick Bauman/Kevin Barrett, UNK 285-Tucker Lane, UNL v. Kevin Barrett/Joe Alston, Shawn Meyer, UNK Seems to me like UNL might still have an advantage but I would like to think UNK would win 4 of these matches. Also just looking at the rosters, UNK is much deeper. An injury or two could really plague the huskers season. "The finest steel gets sent through the hottest furnace." |
Rookie Registered: September 10, 2008 Posts: 39 | Some guys have shifted in the offseason, UNL's line-up is likely: 125 Shawn Nagel 133 Ridge Kiley 141 Jake Sueflohn 149 Brandon Wilbourne 157 Ross Grande/Cody Compton 165 Robert Kokesh/Tyler Koehn 174 Caleb Kolb/Tyler Koehn 184 Josh Ihnen 197 James Nakashima 285 Tucker Lane |

IMHO, Kokesh will/would AA @ 165, probably at 174 too. From what I seen last season, Compton is a capable wrestler but looked like it was all he & Koehn could do to make 157. Thought maybe we might see Kokesh move up to 174 so Compton could move to 165, Kolb/Nakashima 184 and Ihnen @ 197, leaving the door open for Green at 157 by end of year. Aside from Kiley, it looks like the lighter weights are going to have their hands full. I think UNK could make UNL nervous if Hepburn is at 149 and wondering of Brock Smith's status? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Big D, |
Rookie Registered: September 10, 2008 Posts: 39 | Nagel has improved a lot this off-season. Kligsheim is gone so Nagel will have to step up. Kiley is a returning NQ and legitimate AA contender this year. He will be huge at the weight class. Sueflohn is a top recruit and should step into the line-up right away. The guys in the room I've talked to said he's a first year national qualifier. Wilbourne is making the move to 149 and will be very big if he can hold the weight. Grande is moving up to 157 and wrestling off with Compton. It will be interesting to see who gets the start. Kokesh could AA at either weight this season, with his ideal weight being 165. Tyler Koehn is a lot better then his results have shown (which include wins over ranked opponents) as he has just been cutting way too much weight and could wrestle either weight Kokesh wasn't. Also, Caleb Kolb is returning at 174 and is a top 20 wrestler. It's a good problem to have for the team. I think Kokesh will AA at either weight and a national qualifier will be produced from the other. Ihnen has twice been in the round of 12 at nationals and looks to break into the AA status. Nakashima is moving up to 197 to fill the hole left by Andy Johnson. James was a JUCO champ before coming to Nebraska and placed 8th last year at the Midlands while redshirting. He will be a pleasant surprise to people who don't know him. Lane looks to finally break through at nationals and become an AA. IMO, Although UNK may match up well at a couple weights, they'd be a heavy underdog at many others and I don't see them making UNL nervous. |
