The 2 above are from the Ice storm just before Christmas. The ones below are from the storm just before the New Year. It's a lot worse this time around. Still don't have power except for the constant hum of our generator. But we're getting by.

This is what they are supposed to look like

This is what a lot of them look like now...

The same trees in our yard as I posted above.

And finally the one down by my shop.

Its amazing how something so devastating can happen in one place in a state, but just an hour's drive east and there is nothing even close to that. What a devastating storm......

A great set of ice storm damage photos can be found at www.nppd.com. Click on Photo Gallery. These photos, however, do not convey the extent of the damage. My work takes me into rural areas of central Nebraska and I have never seen an ice storm match the destructive power of the two New Year's storms. In driving through rural Phelps and Kearney Counties, there are miles and miles of east-west county roads with more REA poles on the ground than left standing. Line crews are doing a great job in repairing the damage, but they have months, not weeks, of work ahead of them. Hats off, high fives and handshakes to each and every lineman out there woking overtime. Yes, I know they get paid well for this work, but they damned sure earn it! Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers to help keep them safe as they rebuild the powerlines (rebuild, because miles and miles are beyond repair). So have patience and understanding as they do everything humanly possible to rebuild the electrical power system. If it takes a few more days than anticipated because they need a little downtime to rest, so be it. Just keep them safe and they will get the job done. It's what they do. Thanks guys!
