After about two years out of the newspaper business, there is a chance I may be going back to it before the end of the year.

I've been in the Omaha area working the regular 9-to-5 gig for the last two years, which gave me an opportunity to spend some quality time with my daughter. Now that she's college bound, it's time for me to look at getting back into the biz and I've got some options available that I'm looking into.

Of course, if I win the lottery you'll never see me around these parts anymore...I'll be on a resort island playing golf every day and poker every night. However, since those odds aren't looking good right now, the chances are better you'll see me at a newspaper sometime before the holidays.

Say it ain't so!!! I can see it now...

The Wierd-Harold will actually have a sports writer who will cover wrestling... NWI's Prius will be littered with Pop-Tart crumbs & wrappers and have 100,000 miles on it before the season's over with.

Anarchist...just bought a newer car recently, and there are two rules with the new vehicle:

1. No smoking

aaaaaannnnnnddd

2. No eating Pop Tarts.

Foot-long Subway subs are OK, however...

You know, there used to be a running joke among some of my friends in the newspaper biz that I was going to eventually work for every newspaper in the state.

Well we all know that's not going to happen, I really have neglected the western part of the state in my career path. That's all going to change, though, as I am going to be the new news editor for the Keith County News in Ogallala starting this November.

More info on the upcoming move later, but if anybody out that way has a strong back and is interested in helping to unload a U-Haul sometime in mid-November, give me a yell.

Thanks a bunch...I'm looking forward to the opportunity, although I'd be ecstatic if I could just burn everything I have here in Omaha and find exact replicas in place in Ogallala when I arrive. If anybody knows how we can make THAT happen, please let me know.

Right now, I'm enjoying the tedious job of shredding paperwork from as far back as when I was married. Some of this stuff is hilarious -- our COMBINED income the first year we were married was less than $10K. I've probably spent $10K on gas ALONE in the last year...how the (bleep) did I LIVE on that back in 1988?

Nice thing is I've been able to find my birth certificate, divorce decree, an outdated copy of my dad's will and a bunch of old NWI-related receipts. It's amazing the crap you realize you're still carrying around when it comes time to make a move like this.

There's more to talk about, but I need to get back to the shredder...

It sounds like Rocker needs to get his transporter machine back out and give you a hand. One push of the button and wa-la everything is moved. Big Grin

Try a big can of charcoal lighter fluid and one of those long handled matches.

Frank, Frank, Frank,

Don't you remember several years ago, Mikey lost his flammables privileges after the episode at a casino where he tried to torch the white tigers or something of the sort? What if he gets bored in Oh, golly golly and ends up starting a prairie fire??? Are you willing to take that responsibility????

congrats Mike, wave on your way by to the outback Smile omg,I just realized; lets hope KCN has lost their archives! Ref will take good care of you btw. also, an ex greenskeeper at Sandhills Club has owned the golf course at Ogallala now for several years, this guy knows greens! Also, out at Lake Mac north of my old home town there is the Bayside course too! And, I'll be counting on you to bring KCN into 21st century via a website!

You are correct when you refer to us as 'outback', TK. I will try to help Mickey out as much as I can, but it may require some of you 'ex's' moving back; or at least giving us some sound advice on what to do when an "Easterner" joins our ranks.. Any thoughts?

First off I'm trying to find a place to stay. Made the rounds today and couldn't find anything big enough for me, although I do have a possibility that I'll know more on this weekend.

Ref -- if you know of any good-sized 2-3 bedroom houses for rent that aren't in the paper or with a local realtor in town, shoot me an e-mail. We're here in Ogallala tonight and into Friday.

Got a couple of good possibilities, will know more on one Sunday and am planning a return trip early next week to nail everything down.

ref, well stranger things have happened, I loved it there and it won't be long before there'll be nothing holding me here. Just don't play poker with Mikey for money in the meanwhile Smile and Mikey, btw, the ' Garden Club ' meets monthly at the Goose, just a friendly table stakes game Smile Good luck with the living quarters, something will turn up.

TK...thanks! Going back Tuesday to nail down a place. Have one to look at and a couple of other leads that showed up at the newspaper office this morning.

If nothing else, I can always sleep in my office. Lord knows I've done that enough times over the years...

And I don't know why you're warning him about my poker prowess. All these things about me winning online tournaments and taking the neighbors' rent money are just vicious rumors... Wink
