I wouldn't call them the favorite, but Millard North has a chance. They seem to be peaking very late in the season. I'd lean toward Westside, but Prep is always a threat. Kearney wouldn't be my favorite, as they haven't played anyone tough in the playoffs yet.

McCook is probably the favorite in B, but watch for Pius putting together the games needed to upset.

The fact that a 3-6 team can get into the playoffs is a perfect indicator of just what a joke the NSAA's playoff setup is for Class A.

Sixteen of 28 teams make the playoffs??? And it's quite possible the state champion will sport a 7-6 record?

And, yes, Millard North did play a tough schedule...still, the fact remains that they are a below .500 team and below .500 teams should be putting football gear away, not getting ready for a playoff game, much less a state semifinal matchup.

An eight-team playoff in Class A would be better for a classification with only 28 schools in it. With all due respect to Millard North, because they are playing well, this is brutal.

Having fewer "A" playoff teams could make sense since there are far fewer teams overall. However, how many "B" schools are willing to volunteer to move to "A" to make this more equitable? It would surely help because the same "A" schools wouldn't have to play each other and would have the chance to play some easier opponents and have a better record.

Until communities outside of Lincoln and Omaha increase their populations, there will be large discrepancies in the sizes of schools. I guess on the other hand, everyone outside of L & O could move to L or O and take advantage of having the "easier" route to state. :-)

The debate and imbalance will continue.

You don't need to move any B teams to A to make it more equitable. 16 of 36 teams in B make it to state, which is less than 50 percent. It is the ONLY ONE of the six classes where less than half the teams qualify for state.
