Question:
First round games in the NFC are:

5. Carolina at 4. N.Y. Giants
6. Washington at 3. Tampa Bay

Second round games are as follows:

Carolina/Giants winner at 1. Seattle
Washington/Tampa Bay winner at 2. Chicago

Conference championship at highest-remaining seed.

Who will be the last team standing here?

Choices:

Seattle will win the NFC not because there the best team in the league, only because there in the weak conference. What ever team makes it out of the AFC will win with no contest.

I do agree that the NFC is weaker than the AFC, but I honestly think Seattle can beat any of the AFC teams except Indy, and I think they can play with Indy. Looking forward to the best super bowl in the last 10 years between the colts and the seahawks!!

While I would have liked to see Seattle go into the playoffs with a win, keeping the big guns healthy is more important now and with Shaun Alexander getting the rushing title and single-season touchdown record early, Seattle is going to be in great shape in two weeks.

My only concern as a Seahawks fan is their first matchup. The Giants nearly beat Seattle at Qwest Field earlier this year, and Carolina is playing some tough ball right now. I think Carolina will upset the Giants in N.Y.C. and give Seattle all kinds of problems the following week.

That other half should be interesting. Washington could very well win the NFC with the way they are playing right now. Tampa has one of the fastest-folding QB's in the league in Chris Simms, and if they can contain Cadillac and the Bucs' run game, Washington will cruise. I also think the Skins can beat the Bears in Chicago. Chicago has a great defense, but with as awful an offense as they have, Washington only needs 17-20 points to win this one.

Give me Panthers/Seahawks and Skins/Bears for the final four here.

You mean...besides me??? Big Grin

Hey -- the Seahawks have suffered for 30 years. The Bears won their trophy 20 years ago. It's OUR turn, man...

After watching Carolina completely dismantle the Giants IN New York...the Bears will not be able to shut down the Panthers enough, especially with their lack of offense. The Bears have NO offense and won't win without it.

C'mon - the Giants had three linebackers that were bagging groceries when the season started. They never had a chance. Carolina is good, but not beat Chicago good. Even as bad as the Chicago O is, with Grossman at the helm, they should score at least 17 points. Give the defense at least 7 points and they win 24 - 10.

I just don't give the Panthers much credit for beating the depleted G-men, even in NY.

I know, I picked the Manning Bros. in the Super Bowl. Oh well. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Consider, though, that the Panthers not only shut down the deer-in-the-headlights Manning brother, but Tiki Barber as well. Barber had something like 600 yards in the last 3-4 games of the season and was on fire, and Carolina shut him down and made Wood-Eye Manning throw the ball...which he hasn't been able to do since about midway through the season.

The Chicago O didn't do much with Grossman in the lineup, and they'll need to do a lot more against Carolina. Carolina is a much better team than you're giving them credit for...Panthers 24-7.

The Panthers actually play better on the road, which is scary. Grossman isn't that much of an upgrade over Orton, he does have a swagger and the players seem to play harder for him. But if the Panthers can run the ball like they did last week, it really doesn't matter who is playing QB for the Bears. The Panthers did a pretty good job of keeping the Giants D-line at bay, and I think the Strahan and Aumyisomething are tough. The difference is the Bears have got Urlacher and Briggs @ LB. We'll see what happens, but if Carolina is on, the Bears are in serious trouble. I'm going with Carolina to pull it out. As for the other matchup, the 'Skins are a team of destiny it seems right now. This should be a doozy with Seattle being near unbeatable @ home the last few years and the Redskins being unbeatable period the last 7 games. This game is going to prove if Alexander is as great as we all think he is, Williams is going to throw the kitchen sink at them. If Hasselbeck and his no name receiver core don't make enough plays, Seattle is in trouble. I just don't think Washington has enough magic left in them, although if Santana Moss gets hot...all bets are off.

Seattle will double up on Moss...that will pretty much take care of Washington's offense because Portis is banged up and Brunell is hobbling like the old geezer he is.

Carolina scares me more than anybody else right now. If home field holds this weekend, I like Seattle's chances against the Bears. If Carolina comes to town...Katy bar the door. It's gonna be a dandy.
