Chadron Invite results are on the results page. Mitchell was 3rd behind Gillette WY and Hot Springs SD. Mitchell Champions were Brandon Trout 103, Keagon Blanco 112, Connor Blanco 135, and Jordan Debus. 2nd place Bryce Wiedeman and Willie Schwartzkopf, 4th place Roy Garza. Lots of good wrestling, and tough out of state teams. Chadron was 4th.

Gillette, and Hot Springs are both 4A Schools, and I think Mitchell wrestled great to hang in there with these teams. Congratulations to outstanding wrestlers 103 lbs. - 140 lbs. Connor Blanco, and 145 lbs. - 285 lbs. (Tie) Jordan Debus and Wil Brown. Brandon Trout wrestled great coming off of his injury. Bryce Wiedeman and Willie Schwartzkopf lost in the last seconds of their matches. Very tough tournament. They said on the PA that this was the first time in a long while that Chadron has had a Champion in their own tournament. One of the best tournaments of the year so far for us. Congratulations Mitchell Wrestlers!!!

Does it mean Mitchell is now, finally, at full team strength with everyone now in the lineup?

Not yet, our 130 lbr. and 119 lbr. were both out for this tournament. It just seems every week that we have a little hitch. We had a freshman wrestling at 119 and he won 2 matches, he has wrestled on and off on varsity this year, and is really improving. We know we will be at full strength sometime this year, we have to. Maybe our invite next week will be the week, and then full strength ahead toward Districts.

k, thanks for update. I enjoyed your team at the Fracas but keep noticing each week it seems you are missing someone.

Not taking anything away from Mitchell's 3rd place finish(they had a tremendous effort), but Hot Springs is in Class B in South Dakota...and ranked #1...that just says how tough Hot Springs really is. Gillette is a huge school...this years kindergarten and 1st grades have around 1,000 students each. The smaller classes are around 4-500 each. I thought the Tigers might win it there for a while...It was a very well-run tourney...kudos to Chadron High and Chadron State for a great joint effort. They want to expand the meet to 32 teams as soon as possible...even extend invites up to North Dakota...could get real interesting.

Chadron had 2 individual champs...only the 2nd time that's happened going all the way back to 1985. The last one actually goes back to 2006...Bobby Jones...thanks to Con Marshall of the Chadron Record for digging up the records.
