Sounds like there is some arrogance from the ISU side, at least from the coach (comments in the OWH). Comments that seemed inappropriate for a guy who would have lost with 1 second more of riding time in the previous meeting. Don't know what happened this time. ANyone see it? |
Junior High Registered: October 06, 2003 Posts: 510 | Doesn't sound like a whole lot of domination from the "by far" best wrestler. << Brester battled top-seeded Jake Varner of Iowa State in the 197-pound finals, falling to the Cyclone by a 5-2 decision. The unanimous No. 1 and No. 2 wrestlers in the nation entered the final period in a 2-2 deadlock, but with Varner's riding time advantage of more than 1 minute, Brester was forced to cut the Cyclone for an escape point. Trailing 3-2, Brester shot for a last-second single-leg takedown that Varner spun around for the match's final points. >> |

Rookie Location: Kearney, Ne Registered: January 15, 2009 Posts: 40 | I don't remember Burress wrestling a boring style and Brester wrestles very cautiously against Varner but that's not his style as he's aggressive against most of his competition. I believe most matches that pit the top wreslers, you will see this type of match. BTW Palmer had never beat Metcalf but did in the Big 10 Championships by wrestling cautiously and capitalizing on mistakes. Anything can happen in a wrestling match. |

Rookie Location: Kearney, Ne Registered: January 15, 2009 Posts: 40 | And some of those things can come back to bite you, just look at Metcalf. I'm just saying certain matches need different approaches to accomplish your goals. I read a quote from someone on this board and it went something like this; "When two great wrestlers meet someone's going to lose. It could be you today but maybe it's the other guy tommorrow." I think this fits Varner and Brester but it does seem to be Varner's day more often than not. Here's hopeing Brester's day is coming this weekend. |

Junior High Registered: October 06, 2003 Posts: 510 | <<Have you watched the last two Varner/Brester matches? Brester scored the first takedown both time.>> How could that possibly be? Iowa State "makes things happen". He must be letting Brester get that first takedown to make him feel better ... since he is "by far" better. |

Junior High Registered: September 30, 2004 Posts: 534 | The brackets should be up by 5 or 6 tonight. I think its a real long shot that Nebraska gets their 125, 141, or 157 to the tournament. Chad Mattox |
