Varsity Letterman Registered: October 19, 2002 Posts: 856 | All wrestlers shall be eligible for full consolation wrestle backs. If one wrestler is eligible for the third/fourth place match; while the other wrestler is not; due to the five match limit - the wrestler eligible shall be declared the winner by forfeit. If both wrestlers are ineligible due to the match limit; the winner shall be determined by the following criteria for matches wrestled within the district tournament: 1. Unsportsmanlike Conduct Penalty - opponent shall be declared the winner 2. Head to Head 3. Most falls, wins by disqualification, and wins by default (combined total) 4. Most tech. falls 5. Most major decisions 6. Most near fall points 7. Fewest penalty points against 8. Most takedowns 9. Most reversals 10. Fewest stall warnings If a tie still remains both wrestlers appear on the mat for the referee to flip his disk to decide the winner. The flip will decide the higher seed at the state tournament and the third place medal. If the tie was broken by any of the criteria above (criteria 1-10 or disk flip) team points shall be manually split for third/fourth place points evenly between the two teams affected. |

I don't like the provision that we only go to criteria if it would be the sixth match for both wrestlers. That penalizes a wrestler for something over which he has no control. Imagine this scenario. A and B wrestle in the early rounds of the district and A is ahead 14-0 when he pins B. They both wrestle their way back to the consolation championship. There is an extra bye in B's bracket so the third place final would be his 5th match. A doesn't get that extra bye so the third place final would be his 6th match and he has to forfeit. Wouldn't you like to be the one who gets to explain that decision. But it's still 100,000% better than the old "pull through" system. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Frank Ryan, |
