A-1 103- 6 wrestlers 119- 5 wrestlers 160- 5 wrestlers Lets look at the number of wrestlers int eh B-1 district 103- 9 (7 winning) 112- 11 (7 winning) 119- 11 (8 winning) 125- 10 (8 winning) 160- 12 (9 winning) The rest have at least 9 and some have 12. now lets look at the number of winning records in the C-1 district. 103- 4 112- 7 119- 9 125- 8 130- 8 135- 7 140- 9 The rest have at least 5 WINNNING records with most having 7 or more. When you have 5 wrestlers in one weight class and 4 of them will make it to state that is pathetic. Either we need to move more teams to class A or make it so that only 2 qualify out of each district (like Iowa does). It is even more amazing that you can only get 5 160 pounders, one of the most common weights for high school wrestlers. I would be ashamed to qulaify out of that district at that weight and consider it pathetic that one of them being a state qualify is the same as a kid qualifying in the B-1 125 weight class. Something obviously needs to be done. |

Regardless of what town or school size they are from a field of 5 is a lot easier than a field of 16. If I am not mistaken, one of the 160 or 119 pounders will qualify without winning a match. (1 beats 5) (1 beat 4) (2 beats 3) <1 and 2 are in the finals and make state> (3 crosses and meets 5 for a place at state) <4 qualifies without winning a match> |

State Qualifier Registered: October 16, 2005 Posts: 1077 | I am all for Class A moving to 40 teams. Why? More teams competing trying to achieve the goal of becoming state champions. BTW, Class A football playoffs moving to 16 teams was not a good idea being that 5-6 (and worse) records make the playoffs. 12 teams with the top 4 seeds earning a bye is a better move. Maybe with 40 teams a 16 team bracket will be better. Wrestling wise, 40 teams makes making state and becoming a state placer that much more meaningful. |
