Rookie Location: Omaha, NE Registered: December 12, 2002 Posts: 161 | I am pleased to announce that Millard South will be a training site for wrestlers in Eastern Nebraska intrerested in taking Freestyle and Greco to the National Level. The training will be rigorous training to make wrestlers ready for Regionals, Cadet and Jr. Duals, and Cadet and Junior Nationals. The resident coach will be Roye Oliver and the program development specialist will be Jay Meneely (Junior Director). Part of the funding for the program will come from Huskerland Wrestling as Huskerland has a great committment to the improvement of wrestling in Nebraska. For those interested in attending this site, you can contact me at ddenson@hotmail.com We are looking to establish at least 5 sites across the state. As of now, Jeremy Moore will have a site at GICC, and we hope that Coach Manning will make good on his promise to start a site in Lincoln. If we can get a two more Western sites established, we will have our five. |
<Guest> | How did you guys come up with these sites and can anyone do this? |
Rookie Location: Omaha, NE Registered: December 12, 2002 Posts: 161 | Knock yourself out! The more training we can get our kids, the better they will be Nationally. My intention is that we train our kids at the intensity level of say Oklahoma, Minnesota, etc. These guys train hard and they train to win. Their system makes for successful national teams. |
<gocke> | Doug, How often will they meet? When do they start? Shannon Gocke |
<Guest> | So what is or how much is Huskerlnd throwing in to get things going? |
Rookie Location: Omaha, NE Registered: December 12, 2002 Posts: 161 | Right now we are looking at 3 days a week for 2 hours. I am thinking Mon, Tues, Thurs. from 6 to 8. Then in the summer we are training 4 days a week to include aerobic training, weight lifting, and of course wrestling. I am still working out the details, but we will be ready to launch the first week in April. And for the person asking about Huskerland funding. It is unknown at this time until we do the spring and summer budget. I know that last year I put nearly $10,000 into spring and summer wrestling that went directly to kids and to events. This year, I want to put more into coaching and training so as to make it an even split if I can. Of course all this has to be approved by the Huskerland board, and we have to have a good Huskerland tournament in order to fund aggressively. Part of the finances will fund wrestling for anyone in the state, and part has to go to those who actively support or have been involved with Huskerland. |
<huskerfan#1> | When is columbus having this...now or in the summer? I wouldnt mind coming in. |

Also Coach Moore from Grand Island Central Catholic is holding freestyle and greco practices at his school. Are you going to Midwest Classic this year? |
Hus Junior Varsity Location: Kearney, NE Registered: October 19, 2002 Posts: 609 | Friday I got down to 114.6... but then I had pizza and pop for supper so I wrestled 119 Saturday. The highest I've been since after state is about 119.4. I'm not sure how many practices I will make in GI but I'll try and make a few at least. Anyone can train anywhere they want when it comes to this USA wrestling. Just because there is a training site doesn't preclude a lot of issues surrounding USA wrestling in Nebraska. For instance, you still need to qualify for Cadets and Juniors at the Regional or State level. All we want is to qualify as many as possible, train them as well as we can, and make sure they represent Nebraska well. Last year, we only took 22 kids out of a ton of slots that we could have taken. I don't think there will be a run on positions. As far as coaching for each of the teams, that is up to the Junior director and the Cadet/kids director. I would refer you to each of these representatives (Jay Meneely and Chuck Sherer). As far as Millard South, I chose Roye Oliver because he has a quality background and has worked with kids on the National Level year in and year out. Cost - basically we want to keep the cost down but it is going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of about $75 for the spring and $75 for the summer to train. Also must have an active USA card. We hope to get as diverse a population as we can in order to make the training the best it can be |
