Dave Harty passed away last Friday at the age of 75. He was in charge of wrestling and baseball for the Iowa High School Athletic Association. He conducted all wrestling rules meeting in the state until he retired in 2005 and was very instrumental in developing consistency in the way the rules were interpretted statewide. He serve many terms on National Federation Rules Committee and was recognized nationwide as one of the top authorities in wrestling rules.

He was the driving force behind the growth of the state tournament from a 2 day, 4 place winner meet in the 7,000 seat Waterloo Dairy Cattle Congress building to the current 4 day, 8 place winner meet in the 17,000 seat Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. He also was a force in the adoption of the dual meet state tournament.

On top of all of these acoomplishments he was also a genuinely great guy.

Rest In Peace, Dave and May Perpetual Light shine upon you.
