Dennis-Brester was a great match. Went back and forth. Dennis put brester on his back in first and they went back and forth from there.
Gubbels-Brummels was a great match. Went into overtime. No one wanted to make a mistake. Close take down at the buzzer in 3rd for Brummels but had 2 refs on the championship mat and both said no take down. Get to see each other next week at Battle Creek.
Gamsebom-Merchen was good at 135. Gansebom put Merchen on his back. Seemed to wake Aaron up.
Nohr-Buol at 140 was a ride out by Nohr in sudden death.
Brester-Frahm was a good matchup. Frahm is going to do well down the road.
We (Randolph) left after the 171 match. Had no one left. Will say watching during the tournament that top 3 weight classes belonged to Howells. Man they are tough with 112, 130, and 152 added in. Taking nothing away from Winside, Morrill, Rushville (sorry on spelling) or anyother contenter, but can see Howells coming away with the title in Feb.

Jacobsen and Ruzicka both were sick. Franklin QUIT! Hope the coaches and Franklin can get this fixed quick. Watched him at West Point, would be a waste of a talented wrestler to be done.

Well, its good to learn the others weren't injured; maybe 525 will shed some light on the other issue, get it resolved quickly.

Doesn't sound like Franklin wants to wrestle anymore. He was told in advance that if he quit he was done for the year. His dad is on here wanting to be able to practice with a team and put more time in practicing with another group. Maybe this is a good reason that the state does not allow this. I am not trying to cause trouble just looking at things from another view point.

Anyone care to be a little more clear on this little mystery or is the matter supposed to be off limits?

Why would franklin quit? Is he having problems with the coach or what? I quit in 8th grade when i was at public but then i went to catholic and mr.heimes changed my ways of thinking in wrestling and i believe anybody who puts there mind to it can be that great of a wrestler. Not when you quit though that just makes it easier and easier for you to quit and in wrestling your never show weakness am i right?

Had some problems this weekend. The mental aspect was getting to him. Practice has never been a problem. We have done 3 personal trainings with Keith Massey since the season started....so no we're not doing too much practice. Its just pretty hard to get training in with a guy who weighs 60 lbs more than you. We don't want to do club practices...just to be able to bring a partner with us to personal training...that's all.

Dustin has probably wrestled 500 matches in his career so far. You might think that this would be "old hat" for him, but it's not. HS is alot different and there's alot more things in play such as ratings, newspaper articles, huskermat, people tell you how good you are, expectation of knowing weeks in advance of your competition and what the competition has done etc...etc...I could go on for a long time. Sometimes we forget that he is only 15. How's it feel to be expected to win by your peers? When you win..it's no big deal because you where somepose to anyway....and when you lose....then man it's a big deal. Dustin doesn't have a problem with losing or handling it, just the anticipation 24 to 48 hours before going into competition. Once he is a the tournament then the 500 matches under his belt kicks in and it's not a problem.

We have worked things out this weekend and he will be at practice this week. We won't be talking about upcoming competition, scouting or seeing what the competition has done anymore. When saturday comes he will just go and wrestle and not think about everything else that's going around about.

Hope everyone has a good year and let's try to remind ourselves that these men are just kids...that's what I had to do. Thanks for your concerns.

That's a great post 525. Things are much different today from just a few years ago in terms of the publicity that wrestlers get and the individual attention brought to them. Good luck the rest of the season.

That was said very well and from the heart .

Dustin is one of the best in the state and it will be apparent to all in it's own time .
Tell Dustin to hang in there he will do just fine .

good luck franklin and the ratings mean nothing unless you let them so just remeber if you can keep your head on straight you will suceed alot further. Also your only a freshman and from personal experience its tooken me 2 years of high school to get where im at now so just hang in there and you will be a great wrestler no matter what anybody says. Good Luck!

All ratings are people that are on their "A" game for the week. People rise into and fall out of ratings all the time, and it is very very rare if the top six in state at the end of the season are the same six that are rated. Just go out and do you what you love and ignore all the talk.

To be the best, you have to beat the best.

good saying i also agree to be the best you have to beat the best. Wrestling is a very undeciable sport and it takes more heart than brains sometimes so just put it on the line and never be settled with your best cuz you always can improve.

Appreciate the replies...especially the ones from Battershaw. He's our biggest competitor at districts and it means alot to hear from you. Hope the best for you and maybe you and Dustin can help each other achieve each others goals.

Dustin is back and had a great practice yesterday. We are actually relieved that this happened and that we are learning from it. Being a first time Dad with a son in Dustin's position we've had to learn a few lessons.

Everyone have a great year and remember to leave it on the mat.
