Like most small towns in the Midwest they have a great deal of civic pride. Like most small schools in the Midwest they love their football. They are a little bit unique in that they have 4 starters in the NFL. They are all lineman, which gives you an idea of the size of the people who live there. This spring their high school and much of Parkersburg was destroyed by a tornado, which killed 8 of their townspeople. Watch the NFL video and read the story from ESPN, The Magazine and you will be proud that you live in the Midwest. http://www.nfl.com/videos;jsessionid=FE0344DA8DB7299F3C45C726D2331818?vi deoId=09000d5d808ecd39 If this link doesn't work, go to nfl.com & go to the "videos section" & search for applington parkersburg & it will show up. the video is titled "Lending a Hand" & it's great! The "Football helps Iowa town recover from tornado" story is located at http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3454225 The magazine article quotes a coach from Firth Norris High School here in Nebraska which was hit by a tornado a few years ago.
