State Qualifier Registered: March 21, 2005 Posts: 1035 | I have always like slogans and motivational sayings so I have begun following the lead of many of you and ending posts with one of them. Some of them are ones that came from my teaching/coaching days and were shown in my classroom, lockerroom, wrestling room, etc. Some of them were picked up later. The intent ranged from thought provoking (Isn't that what education is all about?), to motivational (A highly motivated person with average ability will blow the sox off an unmotivated person with great ability.), to nonsensical (Intended to bring a smile and break the stress of a particulary tough lesson or practice). Please post those sayings that you enjoy. I hesitate to name names because I will probably overlook some great ones but here are a few of my favorites from this forum: Red Rocker: "A PEOPLE THAT VALUES ITS PRIVILEGES OVER ITS PRINCIPLES, SOON LOSES BOTH." Eisenhower 3/4 Nelson: "Defeat is not getting back up." There is another great one that comes to mind and I can't remember who posts it: "Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do." "It is better to be rich and healthy than poor and sick." |

State Qualifier Registered: March 21, 2005 Posts: 1035 | Silverhawk's quote of Steve Prefontaine," Somebody may beat me but the are going to have to bleed to do it" and 3/4 Nelson's, "Defeat is not getting back" remind me of a story in a book, Darrell Royal Talks Football. Royal was FB coach and AD at the U of Texas when he wrote the book. He told the story about the 10 year old boy who was walking home from school with friends when a 12 year old started to bully him. The younger boy was pretty badly cut and bruised by the time an adult came along and broke up the fight. As they were walking home one of the 10 year old's friends said the he didn't have anything to be ashamed of, that even though he got beat he put up a great fight against a much bigger and older boy. The 10 years old bristled up and said, "He didn't whip me. We are going to finish it tomorrow". "Love people. Use things. Don't get it reversed." |

Life wouldn't be so hard, if we didn't expect it to be so easy. Good judgment comes from experience and a lot of that comes from bad judgment. Life is a horrible teacher, it gives the test before the lesson. The failure quote by MJ. If you don't invest very much, then defeat doesn't hurt you very much and winning is not very excitingy-dick vermell |
