Has anybody been involved in these fantasy poker leagues that are cropping up at sports bars in Omaha or Lincoln? They're starting one up in Gretna next month and I'd like to know the skinny on how these things operate.

I know there is no real money involved (that would be gambling) but I understand that point champions at each bar get to compete in a statewide tournament, with the winner getting an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas that includes an entry in the World Series of Poker in 2005.

Whitey...I know Boston's at 84th and Giles in LaVista has it on Wednesdays. Jackson's Pub in Gretna is starting a league up in October.

can u join at any time or do u have to start at the beginning?

is there an age limit?

Im guessing that there is an age limit since it's being held in taverns and such. I think you can join in at any time when they play, but how that effects "points" standings I'm not sure. My guess is that more often you play at one place, the more points you will score.

i'm sure there has to be an age limit of at least 21. b/c i wouldnt see them let a minor play with chance to win a spot in the WSoP and not be able to play in the SWoP because he/she was not 21.

You can't get in a casino in Vegas unless you're 21+, so that's definitely not going to happen.

Don't know if you saw the WSOP, but there was one guy who actually got carded because he looked under-21 (think his ID had him at 27). Can't remember if it was during the main event or one of the smaller tournaments, but it was kinda funny.

BTW, Whitey...went over to Boston's in LaVista to sit in on one of the weekly fantasy poker tournaments. Was pretty interesting -- haven't played live T.H-E outside of the cozy confines, so it was a little unnerving at first. But when you win 3 of the first 4 hands with pocket JJ, KK and QQ, it helps ease the butterflies some. LOL -- Actually doubled my chip count at one point, but ran into a couple of tough hands on got knocked out going all-in with A4 non-suited against a guy with pocket snowmen. Got a 4 on the flop, but third 8 showed up on the turn and that was all for this week.

yeah he was in the Main Event when they carded him. so with those poker bar games all u have to do is show up? hmmm....maybe i will see ya at next weeks game mikey!

it was funny when mike matusow had him get carded but his date was 1982. so just 21 or barely 22.

They're starting one at Jackson's Pub in Gretna first week in October, I believe on Thursdays. Maybe we should get a group of wrestling brethren there and start our own verison of "The Crew"...that would be a blast.

I don't know if we'd want him in our crew -- all he'd do is tell us how he has made us such great poker players by his mere presence in being our online adversaries.

And, quite frankly, I wouldn't want to listen to his nonsense after he is busted out by my Aces-Kings full house. But then again, it's his own dagblasted fault going all-in on a pair of fives.

Mikey! i went to the one at Big Red Keno...man it sucked! ppl would bet with anything. they also raised the blinds like every 10 mins so u were forced to bet more than u would expect.

i think im gonna stick to home games.... so if ya ever wanna start a game i will come.
